Location: Crystal Lake, IL | Hey Guys - I know this isn't Musky related but with the wide knowledge base on this site I'm looking for some help. A buddy of mine recently got married and I am going to be getting custom spinning rods made for each of them. When speaking with them, they need rods that could be used for bass/pike fishing. I'm thinking maybe 7' medium or medium/heavy for them. Either way, the real question is, does anyone have suggestions on where to get these rods made? I know it may be a stretch, but i'm looking to spend maybe $100-$150 per rod. I appreciate any input you guys can provide.
Thanks!

In that price range you are going to be paying for a lousy rod IMO.
I'm a fan of gifts than can/will be used. So in this case I'd by a $100 rod, and then have a local rod maker add a custom touch to it....Maybe some writing/w epoxy/clear over it.
A $100 over the counter rod buys you quite a bit these days in a bass rod. |

Location: Barrington, Il | I diod this when I got married. Went to a custom rod builder and he gave me a good price on them, I think about $100 each. don't think he's in business anymore. find a local guy and ask him for aprice. The custom is a nice touch. you can write whatever you want on it. |

| Great Idea. My wife and I received the same gift for our weeding present. We were given over the counter St. Croix rods with her name on one rod and mine on the other with our wedding date....still using them 20yrs. later. Not sure what they painted the names and date on with, but looks like a gold paint with a clear coat over. You can tell they did it by hand and it was not a rod builder, but still very cool. I don't think you would need to go custom... |

Location: Crystal Lake, IL | I guess when I say custom, that wasn't my full intent. More less a smaller company that I could go through that could put their names and the date on the rods before they send them to me. Ideally I just don't want it to be a rod you can run down to cabelas and pull off the rack. I want it to have a little meaning behind it. I say $100-$150, but I don't think I would rule out going up to $200/rod for the right product.
Thanks,

Location: Home of the 2016 World Series Champion Cubs | Shop for and buy the rods that would fill your wants/desires for your friends at your fav fishing retailer. Then call Corens Rod & Reel (773-631-5202) to add your personal touch. That part should really be inexpensive. Its simply a paint pen and or decal and an epoxy clear coat. They are on the northwest side of Chicago in the norwood park nieghborhood (Harlem and I90) easy to get to.

| Give Lonnie a call over at Thorne Bros. I know a lot of people who have ordered wedding party rods from them and they turn out incredible! When it comes time for my wedding next year, I'll be ordering a batch from them! 763-572-3782 |
