| I have been reading alot of posts on other websites about this reel and would like some more insight. It is said to be a bass reel with a gear ratio of 5:4:1 but yet there are muskie fishermen who still use it. I am interested in getting one because its cheaper than the revo toro or revo toro winch, but I would like to know if the revo winch is durable enough for big dawgs, topwater, and jerkbaits. I would like the reel to last several seasons.

Well....nothings biting....time to use the fried chicken from last night |

| I also am thinking about a abu garcia 7001, kinda big and heavy but seems reliable. |

Location: Stanley, WI | I think you will need the Revo TORO Winch to have enough line capacity and strength for those types of lures. You could probably use the bass size winch for smaller bucktails and topwaters, but the Toro's are much more equipped to handle the larger baits and heavier line. |

| Get the HS moddel, the winch is way to slow to pickup line when you use that kind og baits.
I use the toro 51HS model, and it is more than perfect, for jerking. |

Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | I am just going to use blades as an explanation platform...
The winch has a low gear ratio with power, so you wont be able to burn any blades, but it will help with the fatigue factor if you plan on slow rolling them. The TORO winch makes things pretty easy as long as you don't plan on burning.
The HS model has a high gear ratio... Thus letting you bring in the blades (or whatever you choose) a lot faster. In my experience, the HS model is great but the gears wont last as long as they would on say the Winch or Toro 5:4.1.
Abu used to have and now just came out with a Toro 50, 60, 51 and 61 in the 5:4.1 ratio. It has a little more power so it is not to crazy bringing in big stuff and a decent gear ratio helps a little with speed. You will still have to put in the effort to bring em in fast but it would not be as fatiguing as the Winch would.
I say go with the 5:4.1 ratio. It is a great all around reel. Gives you a little power mixed with a little speed. If I am not mistaken (and correct me if I am wrong anyone) But the Winch is 22" per crank, the 60 5:4.1 is 25" per crank and the HS is 30.9" per crank. I personally own the 61 5:4.1 ratio. I love it! It is a great reel and I think that my next one will be the new version of that reel (as I own the older version).
Otherwise another great option would be the Curado 300EJ. Great low profile reel with a high gear ratio or 6:9.1 and 32" per crank. I hear nothing but good things about this reel, but cannot speak from experience. A few of my buddies own it and they love it. It is less expensive than the TORO line.
The revo winch you are looking at, is a bass reel. If you are going to buy a musky reel make sure it is from the Toro line. The bass ones will not even come close to holding up with the giant lures we toss on a regular basis. Hope this helps |
