| Hello,
I have a 2005 60hp Mercury. The tilt/trim is giving me some Issues. When the boat is idle the tilt works fine; it goes up, and it goes down. I always tilt the motor fairly high when launching due to shallow water. after I get out out on to the lake I trim it down to my desired level and give it throttle. when the boat gets up in speed, the motor trims down on its own. I can not keep it tilted up at moderate to high speeds. Also when the boat is going at moderately to high speeds and I try to tilt the motor up, it will move, but then the motor beeps at me(that same beep I get when I first turn the key to turn the motor over) and the it trims back down. Has anybody else had this problem? If so can you suggest a fix for it? Or do you know what the problem might be? Thank you for your help.

Location: Hayward, WI | The "tilt" range is only for idle speed only, the "trim" range is use under power. The trim range is from all the way in out approx 15 degrees, above that is tilt range. If trim is not holding under power: loosen and retighten manual release valve, check fluid level, if still has issues replace trim/tilt unit. |

It sounds like you might have a seal going bad on the tilt/trim unit. Not sure if your motor has it, but I recall working on a neighbor's merc a few years back that had a screw you could tighten down to help with keeping the fluid stay put when trimmed so it would not fall back down.
The only other thing I could think of is maybe you are low on fluid in the reservior?

Location: Roseau | my father in laws motor does that on his pontoon has same motor also. Thought it was a set up for pontoons. Trim up so far and goes back down, its really weird but feels like the power trim is doing it not just falling in its own? |

| Ok, so the last couple days it quit doing it: the problem. It might be low on hydrolic fluid. When I take it out on thursday i will check. But, how can the fluid be low if there is no leak? Hydrolic fluid does not get used, burnt. Does it? |

Has it been cooler the past few days?

| When the boat had the problem it came out of the garage. I was gone traveling for 10 days. I believe it was hot while i was gone. The past few days have been warm still, 80's, but the boat has been in the lake. Could the temperature of the fluid be causing this?
thanks,
