Location: Iowa | I've had every reel I've ever owned apart, but I went to take apart one of my Toros tonight, to switch to higher speed gears, and I'm stumped. I took all the obvious screws and clip out, but it seems as though something is holding it yet. I don't want to force it, but can't find anything else. Who has had these apart, and can give me some advice? |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | There is a screw behind the spool that you are probably missing. Loosen the thumb screw, remove the screw on the drive side by the level wind, and one by the thumb bar. On the lower side of the frame there is one more holding in a plastic piece that allows you to lube the gears without taking it all apart. |

Location: Iowa | Thanks, but I got all of those. It might come off, but it feels like something else is holding, I just don't want to force it, because it feels like too much tension yet. Maybe I need to apply more force. |

| Did you remove the screw holding the "lube plate" on on the right sideplate? I've forgot to remove that one more than once. |

Location: Iowa | Got it guys. Ryan, you were right. It was the one behind the spool. I didn't realize the spool had to come out to get to it. Just like most things, pretty easy after you get through it the first time. Thanks again. |

If you compare the two schematics, the only items you really need to change are the gears.
#44 and 33 on the above schematics. |

You will have to look at the # on your reel foot first ABU has had 3 different reels so you have to match them up first and on the Schmatics listed above you will also need to change out the PINION HOLDER #31 or the new gears will not work. Also make sure the drag washers are the same, they are in the schmatics listed above. You can PM me your reel foot # and I'll tell you the right parts that are needed. |

Location: Iowa | Yup, all I switched were the gears, which I found in the classifieds here (thanks Pikemaster). Now I just need time to go try it out. |
