| Came across this little gem at a market in Chicago yesterday....really made my day.

(sweet stache Joe!)
It is copyright 1982 with a second printing in 1987. Haven't read through it yet but I'm sure it is filled with some universal tips that stand the test of time but also some things (dacron, rods/reels and of course dead fish) that will show exactly how much the game has changed in the last 25 years.
Back in 1987, I could have cut out the last page and mailed in for my very own VHS (or BETA!) copy of "Game Plan for Summer Muskies" for only $49.95.

Location: Ontario, Canada | I've been using Joe Bucher's designed "power knot" ever since I first saw the instructions on how to tie it in his book. The knot has never let me down in about 30-yrs,. I also still use his "Bucktail Color Chart" that is in the book.
I'm not sure which edition I have, (maybe someone can tell me), or what year I bought it; but I remember buying it shortly after it came out. There is no edition number in the book, and it does have all its pages. I don't remember my copy ever having the vhs tape advertisement with it, but it was a loooong time ago.
Also, an interesting aspect between the copy I have and the one that jacklink has posted the photos of is regarding "Young Bucher and Saric..." on page 86, and the photo on page 87. In my copy the page 86 picture is of "Giude Dick Gries and I"-Bucher, holding a muskie, and some other fish on a stretched out stringer, and the sign behind them on the cabin wall says : "Wild Cat Lodge". Also, on the opposite page-87, the picture has the same caption as the one in jacklink's post, but in my copy Bucher is holding the same "22 pounder" but on the right side of his body with his right hand, but with the same body stance as in jacklink's page photo. The other differences in these two photos are that Bucher and the life jackets on the floor behind him are on the opposite sides of the bow-in my copy Bucher is on the port side. Also, to me it looks like the trolling motor in my book picture is on the starboard bow, and in jacklink's book picture it's on the port bow. Unless I'm all wrong and it's the stern and not the bow. Lastly, in my book photo Bucher's watch is on his left wrist, and in the other photo the watch is on his right wrist.
Anyway, just some interesting differences that would determine the different editions I guess. I would post the pictures, but I'm not sure of copy right laws.
It would be interesting to hear Joe Bucher in an interview talking about this book and the history around it.

| I'm no intellectual property lawyer or anything, but I believe that if a piece of media is being shared or posted in order to enjoy the artistic merit than you are not breaking copyright law. While this is not clearly the case an argument could be made. Seeing as the book is out of print I would not anticipating the copyright holders having much of a problem with posting pics. If they do they can make contact with Musky First requesting the links to be removed. | |

Location: Ontario, Canada | Gregoire, I tend to agree with your comments. However, I don't have a clue about these laws.
Maybe Sworrall will jump in with an answer.
If he says it's ok, then I wouldn't feel like a chicken posting some photos from the book. Like the photos from pg, 86, 87, the Bucher Bucktail Color Chart and Power Knot picture.
There is really some interesting stuff in this book on balde colors, styles and sizes.
When I initially got the book it was the first time (if I remember correctly) ever reading about "Bumping; Bulging; fluttering; buzzin; crawling; synchronizing" bucktails/spinnerbaits. Amazing stuff to learn back then when information on muskie fishing was not as readily available as it has been in recent years.
The book is somewhat of a bible to me. I learned so much from it, and continue to use what I've learned from it.
