Best Paint for Musky Lures

I have decided to take on a winter project that includes sanding down an older lure that I have, and putting a new coat of paint on it. I know that you need a base coat which should be white, and then the actual color.

Any suggestions as far as type of paint I should use, and application tips would be great. I plan on putting a coat of Envirotex on top, but I have details of that process already thanks to the Happy Hooker himself. Keep in mind that I have so special tools for this process.

Thanks.

Pal

Go slowly when you paint and consider VERY carefully whether it needs one more shot of paint or not!!! I have had 3 very good paint jobs turned into repaints by deciding I needed to just even it up a little or add a little more depth. Beyond that I usually use wallmart and K mart sprays but will recommend "nybco" Glowz fluorescent "Saturn Yellow" for your chartreuse color. I have used a couple different ones and the fish seem to respond to that color the best in the chartreuse category and it is a real bright one in mud, bloom or at dusk. I like crystal clear enamel as an overcoat on all my painting.

I am using Premium Enamel this year for a silver paint, color is "Sterling Silver Metallic" and I like it's color and it covers extremely well, if you need a silver side/grey.

crystal clear enamel is a rust-oleum product.

I’ve found that using Lacquer instead of gloss coat works better for a top coat. It goes on thicker and requires fewer coats. If you’re repainting soft wood you may want the hard shell advantages of envirotex. Testors model spray paints make some unique colors. They have a “Flat olive drab” color that looks swell on top of gold sides and a fluorescent orange belly. Have fun.

IF you are using an Envirotex clear coat... it doesn't matter what you use for paint. The clear coat will keep the finish looking nice.

I use Rustoleum products almost exclusively and have had good success with just a CLEAR gloss coat to finish up the job. On plastic baits this strategy is the most durable paint I've seen... and no need for that messy Envirotex.

I was reading this to see what others were doing and would like to add that less is usually better in terms of paint unless you are covering it with some kind of armor, particularly the fluorescents I use are kind of soft and thicker textured and when you get a couple coats on top of a couple primers and then add on top with too much glossy enamel the whole paint coat seems more willing to come off than when you go minimalist.
