| Has anyone ever fished Kishkutena? It's ~10 miles east/southeast of Nestor Falls. A group of guys I know have been going there for 25+ years. I am considering joining this group on future trips. It seems like a numbers lake from what I hear from them, but I was wanting another perspective on it.
If you went to Canada once every 3-4 years, would you go to a numbers lake or a big fish lake? |

| Numbers. Go up, experience the beauty that Canada has to offer, enjoy the time with your buds, catch some muskies, and be happy. No need to beat yourself up chasing 50s on Eagle or some other difficult water. If you can go every year, great chase away, but if you only go once every few years go numbers. |

| I went to Canada once before to a pike/walleye/trout lake and I LOVE it up there. I think I would go up there for bluegill fishing.
My buddy usually catches 10-14 muskie in 6 days of fishing. Some years more, some less. I think they mostly run in the mid-30's. I know they have caught a couple over 50 on Kishkutena, but that's with 8 guys fishing 6 days each trip for 20+ trips. That's a lot of casts....

| That sounds like a great lake and not too far of a drive across the border. Wish I could help you out on the lake, but I've only heard of it in passing. If you fished LOTW you would have a decent shot at hitting 10 fish in a week with a wide range of sizes. Your buddies could also get their walleye/pike/smallie fill, too, but you might lose the feel of a small, more remote lake.
P.S. Go ILLINI! Not too much muskie fishing down in Champaign, eh? |

| Go ILLINI!! There is defineitely no muskie fishing where I am; I'm over 2 hours south of Champaign. I can be to Kinkaid in 90 minutes and Shelbyville in about the same, but I have never fished either lake. The water temps right now obviously make it impossible fish either place even if I wanted to.
The lake I went to in Canada was Lawrence, which is just a couple miles east of Rowan. Caught a TON of northern, some nice walleye, and pulled some lake trout up from about 90 feet deep. It was a great trip, but I want a muskie lake next time I go. |

Location: Cave Run Lake KY. | Illini, YES, GO !!!! Some years ago a group of us from the old Evinrude shop in Milwaukee went every year to Nester Falls fron a week of musky fishing. WE whould get the same guide ( MIKE BRARANOWSKI ) every year, and he whould allways try to get us to go into Lake Kishkutena for a day and we never did, now years later I wish we whould have taken him up on the one day trip just to have been there and fished it. the Lake is a number's lake and you shoud see and catch fish and net fish for your partner, as for big muskies I allways say you don't find the big fish the big fish finds you and who knows there can be a big fish in Kishkutena that has your number. GO. GOOD FISHING TO YOU Marv. |

| A couple of my buddies carried their boat to a lake that was nearby. They boated 18 muskies in one afternoon. All 20's and low 30's but I bet it was still a blast.
If I'm not mistaken, Kishkutena has super clear water. I hope to go there in the next few years.....Any tips for fishing gin clear water? |

| I know Kishkutena has lake trout, muskies, smallmouth, and perch. Does anyone know what other types of fish, specifically forage, would probably be present in a gin-clear Shield lake with these species? |

Location: Leech Lake, Walker MN | Great action lake
Brown and black suckers , white fish ciscoes perch
It's not gin clear not many people have really seen GIN clear water
It's like weak tea color.lots of structure bright day bright color
Dark day dark color, can't ever go wrong in Canadian sheild waters
With red and yellow combination it's one of my go too patterns
Lots of small fish every one goes through that stage then you just want to get a really big one and you go work for it.all the best to you Don

| First trip to Canada when I was a kid we stayed at the lodge right at the portage from Clearwater to Pipestone Lakes. We made a one dat trip on the upper lake to a portage where we humped our gear over to some small boats on Kishkutena. The portage was nothing like the video that was posted, it was all through the woods. Remembering only musky, smallmouth and perch were present. Lots of numbers.
IM, you're 45 minutes from Bloomington area in Champaign. Lake Evergreen is right there, I went to ISU and fished Lake Bloomington & Evergreen frequently. E has muskies, B only pike. Caught quite a few muskies from shore and even a few below the spillway and river there. Boat rentals and canoe rentals as well. Fun little lake to fish with some real nice sized fish there. |
