I'm also a programmer so probably similar to eboost.

Guess I wish I was more similar to PHISHMAN, though, but I suppose that I'd have to upgrade my "equipment". I'm hoping that Shimano will come out with some stiffer "rods" (ha ha ha)

Partner/Principal OutdoorsFIRST Media. On the road quite a bit for our clients and creating content for OFM. Best job I've ever had. This weekend I'm in Minnetonka with a host of other industry folks for Kolo's World record attempt to catch the most fish ever in a 24 hour period. OFM records all the necessary video and still images for Guinness WR requirements and streams the event live. Some crazy stuff happens on the dock after midnight at Maynards. Next week, it's an FLW over in Escanaba and an MWS in Green Bay.

Graphic Designer.

In other words, I'm expected to try and cure both AIDS and Cancer, at the same time, all with a push of a single button on keyboard. At least...that's how much importance and emphasis clients put upon their marketing/design/product needs....you'd think it was so important and needed so fast, that, the expectations of stopping the rotation of the planet Earth would be far easier. I'm sure any other graphic designers can relate to what I'm saying...

Oh. But this job isn't as simple as a "9 - 5" job.

Paid a nominal salary for a 40 hour work week, when often times, you'll most likely work anywhere from 50 to 80 hours a week at times. Like musky fishing not having any set rules...this line of work, doesn't have any set normal hours.

Safety Coordinator for a company that makes mid-range (20-40mm) shell casings for the military in addition to a few different grenade bodies and one projectile. We are the sole source for the products we make.

Here is one of the casings we make in action (Gau 8) ... 4200 rounds per minute but only takes one round to kill a tank!

Even better, our LW-30 Apache round vs. some Iraqis.

Don't worry, doc. I still like you!

At some point, all of these can happen between 9-5 for me:

*Health Care Agency Administrator/Insurance Agent (moderately fun)
*High School Basketball Ref (very fun)
*Co-Owner of Badwater Baits (wish it was the only one on my list some days!)
*Father of the 3 month and 3 year old "Musky Sisters"---I'm predicting they'll be making their first appearance on stage at the winter show seminars in 2020.

Farmer Obviously not a good year to be one though, gonna be a rough one and the hours are rediculous during the best hunting and fishing months which can really pee me off sometimes.
But I have a degree in environmental biology and spent years doing wetland/priarie restoration...

Perfusionist. Not very 9-5 but very cool to arrest someones heart for an hour and then revive it. Even more fun to arrest someones entire circulation and then revive them. However, still not as exciting as catching a monster musky in the figure 8!!!!!! Thats where its at!

Don't know if anyone reads Dilbert, but basically I'm Dilbert. My title is "Principal Software Engineer", which means I am an underpaid and overworked techy.

I've been doing software/computer systems development for 26 years and have helped develop systems for everything from fighter aircraft to control systems to network, telecom and storage systems. Right now I'm working on industrial communication systems that are used in manufacturing, power, oil and gas, transportation, warehouse, and distribution centers all over the world. I make sure that everything works really well. After all, I live down-wind of a nuclear power plant...

I can't actually call myself an Architect, because I haven't finished taking all of my exams yet. I have my masters in architecture and worked professionally for the last 12 years at architecture firms... Currently at a firm called Peterssen/Keller in Minneapolis. But I can't actually say 'Architect' without feeling a pang of guilt until I get around to finishing all 7 exams (about four hours a piece, a month or two of studying for each one... but at least they're expensive. So that's nice.) Pretty common in my profession, though, for it to take a really long time to get around to being licensed. There isn't much incentive; not much pay, but a lot more liability.

I guess I'll keep doing this, though, until I figure out how to make 'Offensive Tackle Co.' a profitable enterprise... which would probably mean having to start producing lures to sell, rather than hoarding them all myself or giving them away! Might take awhile. Although unlike James with Tackle Industries, I DO have a six pack....usually sitting right next to me while I'm airbrushing lures.

Senior Staff Engineer (Electrical/Electronics) for one the largest global companies you probably never heard of (+65k employees). My specialties are data center power systems design, power quality, and lightning protection. It's a great company, I have been working from a home office since 2001. Isn't the internet a wonderful thing?

Nothing I ever thought I would be doing.

I work for Beckhoff Automation in Burnsville, MN. We are the North American headquarters, based in Verl, Germany. Industrial PCs, control panels, embedded PCs, servo drives, servo motors, software, etc. After 2.5 years in the warehouse, I had the opportunity to move into the industrial PC and panel repair department. Learning on the fly and it is fun! Fast growing global company, cool stuff and great people.

Background is Landscape Architecture after graduation from Purdue (Drew Brees era, Saturdays were a lot of fun!), that was my role for 8 years out of college, commercial development, lots of municipal work, designing parks/trails, etc. I worked with civil engineers and land surveyors and loved it. Anyone in this line of work knows how things have been going nationally for designers since 2008 or so, no good, very little work, monster layoffs.

M1st is an electic group for sure, lot of intelligent fishermen here.

Yes cows can bite. But they like to bump, kick, and step on you more than bite. You don't want to be a farmer this year! I wish mother nature would pee all over us right now!

Farmer Rick, you have given the first correct response to what I was looking to get. I've actually thought about doing the Oliver Wendall Douglas pursuit, and getting a position with a railroad. Not even the wooden bumper maker seemed unhappy. so I thought I would represent a possible % point or two.

Mike's Extreme is my guide service. Been doing the guide thing most of my life. That is where the tag name came from. My full time job of 28 years is working at Waukesha Electric. We make transformers for electric company's and whoever else can spend a million plus to get one of our transformers. If you ever see a semi with 100 wheels and over 100 feet long it might be one of our units. Most are shipped by rail but some need to be trucked. Crazy big stuff that produces lightning type power.

I'm lucky enough to work for a benefits outsourcing firm. I play with 401k administratation and consulting all day, or as they say, work in the nerdary all day. It's actually a pretty cool job as I get a good look into employee benefits, the trends that occur between various employers, and it opens my eyes as to how benefits impact my own life. Good stuff.

Only someone who had a mid-size 77-87 GM would know how funny that is...

I applied for local position of rocket scientist, but they said I didn't qualify......for 14 years I was in the international coatings business in the wood division, designing chemical coatings for cabinets, furniture, and accessories. After becoming tired of constant travel and deciding to become a father I went to work for the railroad. Yep, that guy on the train. That's me. Low stress, decent pay, and fun.

i'm the only guy without a title in front of my name
. i work at a cabinet shop and after 6 1/2 years i get the week of the 4th
off and christmas week off.it's owned by an amish guy who is more concerned about his bottom line than paying us for 2000 cabinets a day! our pay is the same for 2000
as it was for 1200 a day, and it's a piece rate shop.

so when you guys talk about your trips up north i get very jealous, haven't done it yet and prolly never will.course i only have a high school education also. and been a grunt for other people all my 40 years of working. can't retire so i'll just keep working

Marty,

Thanks for the offer but with our heavily regulated industry I doubt we would have any traceability on those parts lol.

Looking through these posts, I see people from many different occupations and stages in life. The one consistent theme I see is a lot of hard-working people who are doing their best. It makes sense though. Not to many welfare type bums want to work as hard as Muskie fishing requires.

thats alright. the guys who work normal jobs are the guys that actually fish and don't rely on money to put fish in the boat.

That is silly. I don't think having money and good equipment is a handicap when chasing muskie. It is not necessary, but it certainly doesn't hurt. BR

I think some of the people with good jobs may actually fish the least. High paying jobs usually come at a cost of more years of school and long hours on the job. Its tough to catch fish when one is not on the water.

Good luck all.

Sled, I had a of job that paid a lot of money, well into six figures, but I walked away because it was way to demanding. Working 70-80 hour weeks means no time for fishing and little time for family. Lots of cash means nothing when all one does is work. I've turned down a number of jobs just like it for that reason. My current job doesn't pay as well and I may be running the same boat the rest of my life, but at least I'll be fishing.

Just graduated. Another Mechanical Engineer.
Worked with my hands for quite a while after high school, but I wanted to be able to still use them to continue fishing muskies when I get to retire someday. I also needed more money for muskies.
