anyone out there ever go through the process of cleaning the turbo-charger on your diesel truck?

i've never done it before (owned dodges and trannies went at 125k) ... my ford is at 245k and needs a cleaning. after cruising the turbo doesn't like to pressurize responsively at times (usually when it's hot or under a load) and i'm told having the veins cleaned fixes the condition.

any opinions or experience on the subject?

Isn't there a "turbo valve" that regulates the air flow to the Turbo?
I was told that this may be a problem on my 2003 6.0 with 270,000. miles in it.

I also have a 2004 1 Ton with 175,000 miles that seems to "suck more air when pulling a load (15,000-19,000 lbs) or going 75-80 mph.

i've been told the variable veins just need to be cleaned. it's not that turbos go bad, just that like other parts in trucks, they need to be maintained after time. they've told me to expect a 4 hour job and without parts it's going to be reasonable. it's always possible i may run into a parts need. i'll let you know what i find out once it's taken apart.

this isn't that it needs more air, but more that it has a leak when the turbo is needed. the high-pitched humming noise is the turbo spinning with an air leak.

i don't think my leak is a valve leak.

A very good site to help troubleshoot problems.
I just had my first no start om my 04 ,6.0 . 125 k miles , Fcim relay on the fuse panel seemed to cure the problem.
Lots of crazy "expensive " things can go wrong with these , oil cooler, egr cooler , fcim , injectors.
Do you have the egr connected , removed ,or disconnected ? The Vgt valve on the turbo likes to stick also .

been through all of it ...

99% chance ficm is NOT it
egr = yah, at 120k for most
... there are people who know how to keep the low-level leaks (when they're hot), but most don't have a clue. i found a shop that understands the complexity of the system and knows how to keep them from leaking when they're hot.

lots of people got hosed and changed out ficm modules and high-pressure pumps that never were bad, but because the mechanic didn't know what was wrong and started to guess.

i'd buy another one in a second, take it to these guys and drive it happily forever.

What shop? Is it near minocqua ? Would be nice to know in case I have a prob up there . Better than taking it to a "parts changing" stealership
