Not exactly sure what classifies them as dumb considering they just made off with a 40k dollar boat. Criminals may be tools but they aren't the dullest tools in the shed.
Hopefully the boat is recovered in one piece. |

With the dude's name written on the side! Lots of easier targets than that. |

| They can strip that Verado off the boat in a matter of minutes in a chop shop, pull out the elctronics, etc and be done in less than an hour. I have read that it takes a skilled team less that two hours to break a high end car into parts and out of a chop shop.
A lot of cars and bikes that are stolen are sold as parts, not as a vehicle. Same with boats. Professional thieves seldom try and sell a whole car or Harley, unless it is to an over seas buyer. |

| I know the feeling, I had my Ranger stolen about 10 years ago. They parted mine out but eventually they got the guys. Best of luck getting yours back. |

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | If its not specifically called out in your policy, replacement insurance may not pay for an exact replacement. It's kinda like Kelly Blue Book values for cars, but for boats. I was very enlightened/educated when I asked my AMERICAN FAMILY insurance agent what actually was covered with respect to the boat itself. They have all this fancy mumbo-jumbo in the policy. It turn's out, I can't even replace it if the boat is stolen...... they'll give me ~$1200-$1500 for a 1985 Skeeter SF150 (17.6') with 1989 Johnson 150Hp. Motor runs perfect, with motor trimmed up +65mph on the HB 997c SI GPS. My HB 997c SI cost me ~ $2400 - that's covered, provided I can document it was on the boat!
They also won't do a stated value policy. I can get that on a 1964 Corvette, but not a 1985 boat..... Go figure! If someone has a better insurer or package, I'd certainly like to hear about it.
Have fun!
Al

| More info....The boat serial # is RNG7D211E404. Its a 2004 Ranger 621 with a Mercury 250 Verado serial number OT980212. He has a Merc kicker on the starboard (driver's) side. |

Maybe you could post it on E Bay - stolen Ranger boat for sale w/ complete description + photo's, etc.....
Good luck!

I'd wager the name was the first thing covered or removed. In fact, they probably already jiggered the rig up with other stickers. This really sucks. I've been hearing of too many thefts, and brazenly arrogent mid day large scale jobs too. Man.

| This truly sucks to hear about this kind of stuff. But this recession is going to bring back more and more theft and crime during these hard times.
Thing is...the future owner will never be able to get the thing serviced. I would assume once it's reported stolen, if a marina would take the thing in needing service, the minute they put the H.I.D. of the boat or serial number of the motor in (regardless if the two are still mated together...which...most likely they're no longer mated together) I would think that those numbers coming up in the computer system would have them reported as stolen??
I guess the only way you take on a "hot" boat or motor and needing service is to either do it yourself or find a buddy that will do it for you... |

Yep, i agree - seeing an increase in theft all over..u gotta really take that extra step now of securing your stuff....even when u got rods n tackle when your parked at a gas station makes me leary. |

| Typically these are parted out in an hour or two. They would never need service. Usually the boat and shell of the motor will be found. H |

| Would be very wise for anyone buying a used boat/motor/trailer these days, to have the H.I.D of the boat, V.I.N. of the trailer and the serial number of the motor run by the local BMV or police to have them checked before making the purchase.
This past weekend when we were traveling with the boat, even with my boat covered, when we stopped for food, I still parked in a highly visible spot in the parking lot that I was able to see out to it at all times to watch it. The cover can help a bit, to keep wandering eyes out.
Never leave gear in the boat over night, whether docked while in the water, or on the trailer on land...yes...it's a major hassle and inconvenience to haul all that stuff in for the night then back out to the boat again the next morning. But it's even more of a major inconvenience to be out of gear for the day/weekend/week/month/season and have to deal with insurance companies and then go back out and re-purchase it all over again.

Was it stolen out of your driveway? Did you have a coupler lock? If so, what type?
I'm sorry this happened. I LOATH thieves!!! Especially ones that take a man's boat!!!!!! |

| How can you be reached? I think i saw it heading south on hwy 41 early Tuesday morning |

|
| Seriously. Im 100% positive i saw it south of Oshkosh being towed by a little brown jeep type thing. It was having a hell of a.time, doing about 55 in a 65 and.it seemed tongue heavy, it was swaying pretty good |
