Two follows on a MuskieTreats

I went to Cave Run yesterday and fished with the venerable Tony Grant. What a wonderful fellow to fish with! If any of you have not had the pleasure, you're certainly missing out. Within 20 minutes of starting our trip, Tony had me on fish. Got a nice follow, low/mid-30's maybe, I was using this butt-ugly Treats lure! We came back to the spot a while later and I raised an old girl on the same bait who has been seen there for the past couple weeks; one of Tony's guides actually had her hooked for a while - "Smith-class" size: 46-48, came in right behind the boat following that Treats lure. I swear, as she was turning, a bunch of bugbbles came up behind the motor and you could hear that muskie laugh! What a rush to see that fish so close, absolutely awesome. I've got to quit gaping and start hooking one of these creatures, I guess.

Tony had another follow later that morning in the same spot. Cold front and clear skies moved in and we didn't see another. Still, wonderful day on the water, great company from a hard-working guide. Tony's one of the best, my grateful thanks! m
ps: Hey, Treats, e-mail me at [email protected]. Got a question for you! [] [] []

Hi Mikie,
Treats and I got out Friday for a few hours, the weather was real nice up here in the hinterland.

We had a bunch of follows on jerks, suicks (esp a weighted Suick extra-lead) At one point with that deep Suick I had 3 follows on 4 casts, but I couldn't get them to bite!! My figure 8s must have been entertaining, cuz the muskies would just sit there & watch...

I think it was a purple Squirko that Treats finally got hit on & after a hilarious few minutes of papajoe-follies we actually got that big girl in the net. About 43.5" and FAT, we estimated 20pounds which is still increasing, 21 pounds, 22pounds...got photos (old-style camera) should have them up soon.

I got a pike, so I'm still sitting on a big 1 for the year!!

Keep the faith! I'm getting some wieghts to add to my Suicks!! Get them baby's down deeper...

Later,
papa joe

You dog, that still keeps you one-up on me! Time's coming, though, and I feel like its getting closer. Man, that was a big girl that came up to see me; closest encounter yet. I guess I've always had problems getting females to commit. oh well. Hope you are gonna have a great winter, can't wait to get you back in the Gambler next summer. m[]

Boy, make a color that's a little outside of the box and you get nothing but ridacule [:p] . I'm glad it was moving fish for you. If you keep moving fish, I may have to take it back[]

Papa, you've got to give me a little more love on the fish. It was all of 44" and if I would have taken a few minutes I could have gotten another couple[;)]

I can attest. Muskie Treats do work. I was with Muskie Treats on Mille Lacs this past summer and not one was catching anything on a hot day. Muske Treats had a plan. After reach a spot, within a few cast he caught a nice lower 40's fish on a treat. Unbelievable.

Treats is a straight up guy with a nice lure. Of course he doens't sell alot because he makes them by hand, but if you get the opportunity....

Those treats gliders are pretty cool. No fish yet for me but they will produce. I have a jerkbait to with a tail, that thing has great action and will produce before the year is out.[;)]

He needs a hitch for his baits. How about BAU(butt ass ugly) lure comany?[]

Yeah, Shawn is all right. I give him a hard time about the bait he give me, but to be honest, I've moved more fish with that bait than with the entire rest of my arsenal. Now, if I can just get a 2-ft. long rear hook so I can get one of these followers....

I really like my Muskie Treat,it is a great little bait that really produces fish, not a lot in the boat but it sure gets their interest. The only thing I wish is that it was a bit bigger, because I can't keep the pike off the thing.

Hey Treats you should make a 8" Treat and call it "The Monster Treat", yeah that has a nice ring to it. I'll take the first one you make in a Walleye pattern [;)]

Twist my arm PK [:p] . I may just have to do that. Something to keep me busy during the off season. The only problem is the water's going to get hard pretty quick and not much time for R&D. I may have to give it a try tonight while my wife naps in front of the TV[]

oooohhhhh baby!

[:p] [:p] [:p]

If you make a 8" model I got to have one or Two or....!!

That might be the greatest bait ever made, you NEED to make the Monster Treat.
For the good of humanity man! You have to make it!

And you need to make me one in a walleye pattern and maybe one in that really keen orange with the prizm tape that Papa Joe got from you.

[:halo:] PK[]

Build it and they will come....

Treats, OK 44. Could have been 45 or more with a little "chiropractic adjustment".

Here's a quick story: there's an African tribal custom in which the tribe (especially the other hunters) gather around the kill for the day, and even if it's like a huge giraffe or something, they talk about how paltry and small the beast is. The custom is called "cursing the meat" and it is a way to show thanks and humility to the gods.

Anyway, when I "short-shaft" (I might not be comfortable with this term yet) a musky that I helped land, it's mostly out of appreciation for having been there.

Folks, this was a PIG that Treats got last Friday. It was twice the size of any muskie I ever caught. The length wasn't a big number, but it was huge and I'd have been scared to pick the damn fish up for a photo...as you will see if he ever gets the 35mm film developed.

Like we said it was easily 20-22+ pounds and seems to increase in weight and girth with each passing wintery day...

Later kids,
papa
