I have never fished Lake Vermilion in the summer {only late fall} how much boat activity is there in mid summer ? Is there alot of fishing pressure or can you find less pressured areas throughout the lake.

most good spots get pounded several times a day!!
Night fishing is just as bad, on a full moon.
You will move fish, but tough to get them to bite.

it's really a matter of opinion...people either love it or hate it there. There certainly will be a lot of company on any mid summer trip there, that is not debatable.

I haven't been back in 10 years and have no interest of ever returning

The place gets pounded. Not sure that there is any areas not getting hit many times in a day. Good place to go site seeing for muskies, just tough to get on the hooks.

Lake Vermilion is 39,271 acres in size. Some of the lakes we fish in Illinois are 200 acres or less and receive a fair amount of pressure for their size. Even when the boat launch is full we can find a place to fish and catch fish too with plenty of space to ourselves.

Don't let anyone scare you away from fishing Vermilion. There are TONS of places to fish and lots of fish too. Most just stay on the east end and fish the same marked reefs or spots people marked for them on their map. Maybe that is the problem! There is another 3/4th of the lake they don't fish.

Maybe if some threw something other than a double 10 or a bulldawg they would see less and catch more fish. Backing off where the fish are positioned helps too. A few guys I know did pretty well on small crankbaits last year when everyone and their brother was throwing a double 10.

Good luck.

Traffic on Vermilion is not what it once was. Sure some spots get hit a bunch still. They are community spots and fish are still caught there. With all the internet talk Vermilion will soon again be the worlds best kept secret because no one will go there anymore. Except people who know better! <><

bshep, Thrax,.... right on bro.

You other guys need to explore the lake a bit more,.... unless your lazy and just fish community spots.....

I basically have been living up here for the last 15yrs........... Yes it got really pressured and pounded, and yes these fish are "educated" but guess what ?......... It's a HUGE lake and any corner, or Island or shoreline, or mid-lake hump you go by can, and does hold fish.
You just have to work for them a little.
