| It's November now....and if the ice isn't enchroaching on your open water time yet, unless you are south of the Lake Michigan border (seems as though ICE-IN to ICE-OUT is pretty quick south of this are), you're gonna be without shots at green toothy angry beasts very soon. SO, WHAT YA GONNA DO TO SCRATCH THE MUSKIE ITCH!!?? Here's my thoughts.....
a. sharpen sharpen sharpen....they draw blood just looking at them now, going to move to drawing blodd just thinking about them.
b. MuskieFirst Chat Room.....where else will a whole room full of guys take up my name and make fun of me til my face hurts from laughing
*and the Tuesday industry chats by the way (plug, plug)
**AND the Wed night guide/pro chats
c. View MUSKIE PORN.....also known as R&H catalog, as well as Thorne Bros and Pastikas on-line.
d. Scheme and scheme on how to get new gear.....need a 5600CX Mag for the 7'7" Loomis, and a 7' Heavy Lamiglas Inshore Classic to mate up with for the 5500C3.....how to scrape up the cash?
e. Think of ways/means to make MuskieFirst the ONLY stop for the winter months muskie season....
f. Hit Lakes X,Y,Z,P AND DON'T FORGET Q whenever that ice comes up.....long before yours do above that Lake Michigan line!

| Definately C. This Winter will be much harder than ever because i have twins due in the spring (was trips but lost one early on) so my fishing next year will be DRASTICALY reduced. My only chances are very early spring (march) or not until September once the new rug rats are about 4 months old and hopefully [:halo:] sleeping through the night. BUT, i will be all over the porn..Muskie that is. As well as living through others experiences. |
| |
| I will go into off season depression, until the muskie shows start with Schwartz and his annual "new and improved"
and "got-to-have it" new baits.
I will listen to the "hard water muskie experts". They are the ones which become better and more vocal about it, the farther away from the boat and open water that they are! LOL!!
Does anyone have the countdown until the first Saturday in May, 2003 yet?[] |
| |
| I will be hitting the sport shows. I goto colorado for one weekend in feb. and the rest I goto a sport show untill april. Most are withing 2 hrs or so except the mn musky show and the green bay show. They are all worth it to me.
I also hit the message boards hard and the chat room here. Lots of fun and some great people are in there. |

| Will do the usual, equipment, tv shows, fishing shows, and lots of thinking and planning. Straightening out the fishing albums by putting all the pictures from May till October in their proper places. Working the boards and maybe check out the chat rooms. I've never gone into them, are they worth anything? Any opinions yea or nay on chatrooms? |

| hate to tell you but I'm fishing all the way to the end of the season, March 31st[;)] |
| |
| I'm going to play with my "ROD" till I can use it again!!!!!!!!![] |
| |
| Ralph, such small goals for such big guy......
Just make sure you don't play with it until you lose all the action.
Geez, this is gonna be a long winter.
| |
| I am going to hang out here, go icefishing and visit IcefishingFIRST when that is rocking, and go to every Muskie show I can locate.[]
Then I'm going to get out all my lures, wash them and give them a perm, dress them up in Barbie and Ken outfits, and make my Lakewood into a little house for them to play in.
Or maybe not.[:knockout:] |
| |
| We really do not have a off season here in Pa. As long as the water is open we will keep on plugging. |
| |
| Steve, Steve, Steve,
I think you turned everyone on to a little "TOO" much information here!!!!!!!![:0]
Everyone knows that Barbie isn't with Ken anymore, she's been seen with G.I Joe for the last couple of months, rumor has it he has the Kung Fu "GRIP"!!!!!!![:halo:] |
| |
| I will visit muskiefirst (boards and chat), go to shows (at least 3), go ice fishing, and hopefully that will be enough for me to keep my sanity. Oh yeah, I'll probobly be fishing into late december too, so I only have two months off. |
| |
| I have stumbled upon a homemade jerkbait that is REALLY moving some fish for me. So I will spend some of those days stocking my supply for next season. Last Winter, I made Bucktails. It's a blast catching fish on a bait that you make yourself. My two largest fish have come on homemade Jerkbaits. Hopefully, it will keep me sane.[]
* Steve, maybe you should try some homemade baits. That is, if it's not too late![:p] |
| |
| First I'm going to winterize the boat by changing the lower unit oil, taking out the batteries (marking all the wires with labeled tape), fill the gas tank and add Stabil, pull the prop and remove any fishing line, and grease the shaft. Than I'm going to clean up my gear, back off the drags and brakes on all my reels, tear them down and clean and oil them. Then I'm going to take the line off and put it back on in the opposite direction (like getting 2x the life out of your line). File all hooks, clear coat a few baits, find my waders, grab a rod and two baits and get out to the river and catch some muskies. |

| As soon as the water turns hard, I'm going to put the floats on the ATV, and get ready for Mendota perch, Bago eyes, some rabbit and 'yote hunting with DaveJ, and continue to soak up as much info as I can on the OutdoorsFirst boards.[] |

| Head south to Flordia and catch Snook, grouper, snapper and sheepshead. Get back in March just in time to get gear ready for LOTW May 15th. |

| I will spend my off season watching my girls get bigger, and dreaming about fishing. I also have Cub Scouts with my son. Take my son out to sit on the ice for a while. I also have a few designs in my head for new baits, which means tools, and shop time. Oh yeah, I still have to clean & winterize the boat. Take my reels in to get lubed. Sharpening of hooks. Wait for the Minneapolis show. Oh yeah, do the work thing [:((] . I also have some other home improvement projects to work on.
Lance
P.S. Steve if you start today the season starts in 174 days for Wisconsin, and 201 days for Minnesota[:blackeye:] |
| |
| I'm going to sit in my overpriced sh*thole Apt. in Chicago remembering when I lived the good life in Minnesota. I guess I'll probably start reading up on other kinds of fish to catch since Illinois hasn't got any muskies in it's lakes[]
Actually, I'll spend my winter looking for a new boat and going to the shows.
I"m also going to be upgrading my rods and reels, and I'm sure spending a small fortune on baits.
PK
sssshhhhhhhhh....I got a bite |

| After deer hunting its time to start catching Pewaukee Lake walleyes. The month of December gives plenty of action to the people that are willing to go out and fish in some bad coditions. Boat or ice is the only question during that month. Once she freezes its fresh fish and venison to go with football and cards in the shantys. I can't wait for that to start. If your bored during the off season look into some of the awsome fishing options that are all around you. I know its hard to leave muskies alone but when you add in deer hunting and or ice fishing you will not have much time to do anything else. Perch fishing in madison will be awsome this winter as will Pewaukee walleyes, expand your fishing, its ok to fish for bait for a month or two. Besides it nice to eat fresh fish when you want. Just think fresh walleye from the hole to the pan in minuits, then on the table for finger food while watching tv and waiting for the next flag, works for me. [:p] |

| I'll be staring at a Vexilar in an attempt to turn little red lines into fish that I can jerk up through a ten inch hole.

Make a lure or two and retie all my bucktails. Keep a jug of wine cold on that big block of ice that I cut holes in to catch muskie bait. | Steve, Wifey and I go to the warm clims every year for a week. I have been to the sun coast, just south of Cancun and cast surface lures for barracuda and jig for an assortment of unknown fish. I've been on both sides of Mexico and the best and cheapest fishing I have found is on the Pacific side. A little known place called Huatulco. Yellow fin tuna up to 300#s, mahi mahi to 50#s and a few rooster fish. This is one unbelievable fishery with acres of baitfish getting ripped by huge schools of tuna (the average is maybe 15#s). Last time I was there it was all trolling for $10 a pole per hour. I also take my own spinning stuff and wade the shore. Surface lures like a super spook, woodchopper, or large skitterpop works for me. I've always wanted to cast for the tuna but a 30#er would strip the line without turning back. I have never been to Ixtapa or Mazatlan but I hear that is also fun. Puerto Vuarta was unimpressive to me. Huatulco is not commercialized and some good deals. The best all-inclusive there is the Gala resort. Its very hot there, but, no muskies. [:sun:] [] |
