Location: Hobart, Indiana | My question is how long does braided line last? I know that the amount of fishing and fish on make a difference. I haven't musky fished since last year and looking forward to getting out in two weeks. I really don't want to spent $100 in respooling my reels. Was wondering if I just pulled off 20' of line if that would make a difference? I store my rods in the basement during the off season here. Was wondering if the line after time begins to break down or have memory. I fish with florocarbon or hybread on all my other fishing reels and they have a tendency to have memory from being in the spool during the winter months. If I do have to respool how much braided line do you guys generally put on. I run some backer then the rest braided. I never really know the length of the braided line on. Should I fill the spool or just put on 100 yards, 75 yards or just fill it up? |

| Most of my reels are spooled with powerpro, and I only replace the line when it gets low from retying. Braid doesn't have memory like mono. If you have enough line on the spool, I would peel off enough so it's not frayed and call it good. One of my reels has the same line from 3 seasons ago, and hasn't given me a problem. I have even transferred line to another reel to utilize the fresh stuff close to the spool. Use the money you save to buy some new baits! |

Location: northern indiana | If you haven't musky fished since last year, get ahold of me and I'll get ya out when things cool off a bit here. I'd peel off about 20 yards and you should be good. |

Location: sneaking out to get on the water ;-) | The braid should hold up fine.If left in sun it ight be different.As mentioned above peel off some so it's not showing any frayed line.When it comes time 2 respool put enough backing on so you only need to add about 90 yards of braid.On my revo toros they are almost half full of backing.After a season or two of heavy fishing I pull off the braid and put it back on in reverse so you're fishing with the fresh line like gordo mentioned.Good luck Russ |

| I change mine when i notice it start to fray. This tells me the line is getting weak or dried out. I have used line for 3-4 seasons with no issues. |

| 75 yards is plenty for casting. Fill the rest of the spool with cheap mono or old braid if available. I wouldn't pull too much line off without adding some backer to replace what you took off. You want the spool as full as possible. You might only need to take off a few feet depending on how badly it's frayed. |
