What used boat would you buy for under $5500? Any suggestion what I could get for this amount?

Really depends on what kind of lakes you are fishing. If you're fishing smaller water you can probably get a smaller boat that is new or almost new with some options for that amount. If you need a big boat you'll probably have to look for something either older or very basic.

I will be listing to sell my boat this spring for about what you're looking to spend, it's not a big boat but it is a nice little muskie machine. It's a Forest Green '02 Lund 1440V Rebel tiller with a '02 Merc 25hp +a bunch of xtras. I really like the boat but got a promotion and am making more $$ now and really want to upgrade to something that flies......[]

Good luck...

I might be selling my rig....she ain't pretty, but she puts fish in the boat. Very muskie fishable, very economical, very much with the add-ons that make it a muskie fishing machine....but like I said, very ugly. BUT very economical....email me for more details.

Slamr,
Does your rig come with the curse? Or is that extra?[:p] [:p] []

For around $5500 you are mostly gonna see aluminum boats. I would try and stick with brands like SeaNymph/Lowe, Lund, Crestliner, Princecraft or Alumicraft. In my experience those tend to have a pretty good ride and the decking is usually well setup. Also, those I listed tend to have a little thicker hulls then some other brands. If going used on a boat with a wood deck take care to check thoroughly for wood rot and soft spots. Boats with Hondas or Yamahas may cost more then a boat with a Johnson or Merc. Boats with a Suzuki or Force may cost less. I base that on what those motors cost new. This time of year you might be able to get a better deal then in the spring.

Dude, I just bought a 2002 Lowe fm165s for 2 grand. It had a dent up under the right front. I pulled the deck and storage bin and popped the dent out. I also got the custom trailer and cover. For 200 more I got a barely used Maxxum motor. I got this deal up near Flint Mi. On the way home I stopped at Cabelas in Dundee Mi. and found a Calcutta 400te for $225 in the bargin bin. As I sit here at my puter I look out at that boat, I feel like a thief. Good deals don't come to us, sometimes we gotta go to the deal. I still can't believe this one myself. Also I was told Michigan was a hot-spot for used boats.

Check out the Muskies Inc used boat section. They have some decent rigs for sale. I sold my last Tuffy after posting it there.

Otherwise for $5500 you can get an old Ranger. Over on www.classicbass.com they have a 1984 ranger 350 with a 150 merc, and all the fixings for $5500. If you don't mind the designs of a 10 - 20 year old glass boat. Checkout www.boattraderonline.com. Otherwise checkout what your local dealer is trying to get rid of before the snow flies.
