Looking to plan a trip to either Leech or Vermilion, I have fished Canada for the last 10 years and looking for a change. I have only been to Vermilion once along time ago. [on the West side] Any recommendations to either lake good or bad and I know both lakes are very large any general areas better then the other East side vs West side or North vs South so I could find lodging close to good fishing. Thanks

Vermillion for me.

I highly recommend http://springbayresort.com/ on the west end. Its close to restaurants and the town of Cook. It's a family run business and they treat you like one of the family. With a cabin booking you get a 2 hour complimentary guide service that can greatly assist you in determining great places to fish on the lake.

Ask for Steve, he is one of the owners. I have hired many guides over the years and he has been the best by far. Again you will be treated as one of the family. They are all so friendly and I can say for sure the next time I go back we will be staying there.

Good luck fishing.

LEECH!

If you want to catch fish. Big fish, fat fish and have a good chance of multiple fish days and a double digit week go to Leech.

If you want to have a slim chance at a real big one and maybe a couple of fish for the week go to Vermillion.

That's just kind of the reality of the situation.

I've had tough days and tough weeks on both. I've also had great days and great weeks on both. I find Vermilion more attractive as far as the experience overall because I can escape folks completely if I put my mind to it, but neither offer a real 'wilderness' experience. Both have great mufti-specie opportunity.

The big deal for me is Spring Bay Resort on Vermilion. I've stayed in a BUNCH of resorts and have never been treated as well as those folks treat the guests and the resort is absolutely spotless and well run. Top shelf. That's worth quite a bit to me.

The West end offers great fishing, and superb Bass and Panfish opportunities to take a break from the big stuff or focus on a fish fry. Walleyes are good too, but better on Leech overall. Winds can be less an issue on the west end of Vermilion.

If I could get a couple of fish per week (July timeframe) on the V I'd be a VERY HAPPY BOY...

Been trying for 18 yrs now. Mostly it's pretty tough. Then you get that odd time when we took 4 fish the first evening and had two more nearly bounce off the side of the boat.

Mostly it's really, really slow. But, man, some of those fish.....phew!!

Just sayin'...

I agree with JS that Leech is much better. Based on what I've seen the past two years, Leech has a higher average fish size and a higher population. Your chances of seeing big fish may be better on the the big V, but your chances of catching big fish are much higher on Leech. Leech has good numbers of upper 40 to lower 50 inch fish and they are catchable. And if it gets windy, there are a number of smaller lakes nearby to try.

Mike, just curious what lures/colors you were using? I am headed there for the first time later this month. Thanks
