i know some of you guys here on M1ST have been through this. but my tournament partner and close friend of 28 years john dobry. called me today and while he is on vacation in south carolina , he was robbed. someone broke into his pole barn and stole all his musky gear. took it all but the net. 4 rods and reels, not cheap either st croix tournys and TI rods and shimano reels . 3 lakewoods 2 monsters and a medium all crammed full of baits. and he over spends on them too. he is as bad as i am he gets every color of baits he loves. they even found a hidden safe and broke it open and cleaned it out of collector coins and business records and his truck was parked in there since he was on vaca and they smashed the back window and went through that. they stole tools machines ect... anyhway this all happened in HOBART INDIANA so if anyone sees anything in local area's from chicago to michigan let me know.. its probly all gone . not a good vaca for him now. i told him tr4y not to worry till he gets home..... so keep a lookout if you happen to see someone unloading a bunch of stuff... thanks bill

Hopefully the cops bust the jerks who stole John's stuff!

What type of baits did he have a LOT of?
Which ones were the most unique?

I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I see/hear anything.

I'd be happy to send a few extra baits his way to re-boost his arsenal if that would help!

he had tons of krisko's and everything inbetween. lots of gliders from hellhounds to mm's and big rubber cowgirls too many to name. im sure if someone is gonna hock it it will be in one load IMO

he just texted me his address so if anyone whats to help him out let me know and i will pm it to you.. i dont know if he wants me to put it on here...

also this is not a plee to help out john, its basicly to get the word out. someone took this man's stuff and i am sure that some butthead is gonna try to pawn it in a pawn shop or try to sell it on any website that the idiot can find. i even told him to get in touch with local sport shops to let them know about this..
but i do thank you so much for helping him out. i already have a box that i dont use for him and already guys are stepping up and helping him out.. man i could not fathom this if it were to happen to me or my guide service....bill

Chances are that as bad as this is, the guy's homeowners insurance will cover all his loss. But, if does not, I will be happy to send a St Croix blue stick and some of my trademark Kick'n minnows to get the thing started.

I think when most of us read this it makes us sick to our stomachs and makes me worry that much more every time I leave.

This story sure sounds like an "inside job" to me.

Heres how my story goes, last spring i brought my boat out of storage, still had the cover on. Did not even think about my storage being unlockedor my boxes inside. Walked outside Mon morning to go to work, found cover 1/2 off and looking like a porccupine. Rods sticking up everywhere!!! Very bad feeling, Walked over all rods were there, NO reels!!! The pulled every one out cut the line and took every reel. Tackle box and my full musky box. After long work day I decided to stop at the pawn shop just to check, The little f**k wa there trying to pawn all my reels! Talked to employee and told him a quick story, they kept him thee long enough for the police to show up. He said his brother gave them to him. Long story short, we went with the police to get all of my stuff back, short one reel that was pawned before we got there. He had to pay me the 40.00 that the pawn shop payed him, plus court ordered restitution for replacement. All in all he made away with @ $5000.00 worth of my stuff that i very luckily got all back. Also he neve paid restitution on the reel, so no he has bought himself a FELONY:)))) The kid is a puke/worthless, waste of space, air taking, burden on scociety. I have not seem him yet, but he does live in our area, and i know who he is. I wish all the bad stories could turn out as fortunate as mine! because he cut the line it made it really easy to match the line on the rods to the line on the reels:)). Take notes of what ya have, serial #'s, anything. Thanks for the space to tell my story, good luck.

well i also want to thank everyone here on M1st for helping john get some baits. his insurance did not cover his stuff. and that sucks.. but anyway thank you.. and here is what his wife had put on our facebook page for the WLMC...bill

I am writing this for my husband John Dobry. He is a member but is not on facebook(he follows on mine) Bill Bennett posted about his musky tackle being stolen. we were out of town at the time...since returning we found out is not covered by insurance....guess it will be easier to get him gifts for awhile lol...John was very touched by all the support and sympathy given to him here and on the other musky site. We want to thank you all so much....it means the world to both of us...this kind of experience leaves you feeling so violated...its so nice to have people that help us remember that good does still exist.....THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
