I want to thank them for their arrogance. Now that it has made the press, Archie will have many more visitors coming to "their" little lake to fish. I look forward to sitting in front of the council persons dock catching her fish on her private lake.

I am speechless....I may have to make a pilgrimage, with my boat, to a small 99 acre lake (that I've recently heard about) full of bass and bring with me a pallet of Dr. Pepper!!!!!!!

Any idea where you're able to donate/contribute $$$? This is something that I would feel very good about giving some money towards. Please let myself and others know if there's an online fund.

We have a similar problem at a small lake in Ontario 5 min from my house. Trying to restrIct or deny access. Some wealthy landowners like to think they own the water too. This kind of stuff drives me crazy. Pure greed.

What a bunch of B.S.. they should just leave the old man alone. I can't believe catch and releasing the sunnies is a valid argument to try and shut the launch down.

So basically, the boats that the property owner's run on the lake DON'T erode the shoreline at all, and the general public is releasing too many of their fish. I could see how that would pass as logic in Minnesota.

I'd like to either see them get the permit and back to business as usual or if that doesn't go through, put in a public access and let that backfire in the lakeshore owners faces!

I did not bring up politics, just responded, so perhaps you should mind you own, the meddling type of behavior is what the poor ramp owner is dealing with. Why bring the same type of attitude here? H

When were you stopped on a public launch during posted hours? I have had issues with closed launches that are private, but I respect an American's right to own land. You could say fishing is over regulated, how many new rules and size limits do we have? H

regulations and access denial are two totally different conversations. Back on topic, I can't help but feel bad for Archie who has temporarily lost such a sacred thing because of the over-reaching attitude of a few. My guess/hope is that this will come to a quick conclusion and with some help from all of us who truely care about these kind of issues, the correct outcome will be reached.

Excuse me for being on topic, but I just wanted to post the response that I got regarding donations. I saw that it was posted above but it might not have been noticed before all of this terrific discussion got started.

From Mary Leizinger:

The launch is on Rolling Acres Rd. , just north of the bike trail that crosses the road.
This is such a dirty manuever by a few of the elitist that live on Schutz Lake.

I think today I willl stop by and make my donation today. I will also be sending Ms. Roden a letter, heck maybe even a phone call today on this Independence Day telling her where she can stick her CUP!

And so they were freightened in advance by my threats...The Victoria City Council voted 4-0 last night to grant Archie his conditional use permit!
I'm sure public out cry had everything to do with it.

The thing that sucks is, Archies family had to cough up the cash. Do you think Archie makes $1500.00 a year in donations including his cans of Dr. Pepper?

This is only the first step, the permit hasn't been issued yet. In addition to the permit fee they are also requiring new signs, dock improvemens, trash collection, etc, which will all add to the cost of operation. Hoping everyone will drop a few bucks in the mail if they are so inclined.

Would he still need the permit if he didn't charge? I'm sure everyone who uses it would give a free will donation everytime. I'm not into the fine print in laws though. Makes me want to go try the bass fishing up there now.

This really ticks me off. Here you have a guy with a disability who is trying to make a buck and occupy his time, not really making much money off of running a little fishing launch, and then all of a sudden it's a problem? What a bunch of crap! What happened to allowing people to live out thier American dream? This ment the world to this guy, and hopfully everything will get work out and he will be able to continue to do what he loves. God Bless him.

Last night the City of Victoria Council voted to give Archie Leizinger a permit to reopen his launch and they additionally voted to refund the $1500 permit application fee. While the family will have expenses for complying with the conditions of the permit, we would like to refund donations to anyone who made one and would like their money back. Refund requests can be mailed to Sue Leizinger at 16010 Excelsior Blvd, Minnetonka, MN 55345-5408. The family is immensely grateful for all the friendship and support the fishing community has shown us. We expect to have the launch ready to reopen in a couple of weeks and hope to see each of you at the lake in the future.

The family of Archie Leizinger is immensely grateful for all the support we have received in our efforts to reopen Archie's Landing. While we were optomistic that Archie would be granted a permit, we cound not anticipate the ultimate results of the City Council action last night. The council unanimously voted to grant the permit and they waived the permit application fees. As a result, while we will have some expenses to meet the conditions for the permit, the family will refund any donations received if requested to do so. Please send refund requests to Sue Leizinger, 16010 Excelsior Blvd, Minnetonka, MN 55345-5408. We thank you all and hope to see you fishing at Schutz Lake when we reopen the launch in a couple of weeks.

Mary Leiznger
