The lake i fish at has mostly small to mid size pike and musky but their are some big ones. so basically i maninly fish for them with spinnerbaits. the lake gets to about 30' deep in some areas. the spot i fish is around 20' deep and has weeds that come about a foot or two (and is some areas closer to the surface) to the surface. and i fish bass sized spinnerbaits their and catch 20" pike and a few small musky. And fyi i fish their in the summer. what i want to know is what size lures and what type of lures i should cast to catch pike and musky 20" and up. keep in mind i want most of the small pike to still bite these lures. i was looking online at a grim reaper spinnerbait that is 7". im not sure if that is to big for 20" pike.

Llungen Nut Buster, standard size. You can let it drop and roll it thru the weeds, or burn it on top. 20"+ pike and big muskies will hammer it. No need for a trailer hook, but keep the hook razor sharp.

Don't worry about going to big, I catch little pike all of the time on muskie sized baits...Top water would be my second choice for the conditions that you describe.

I fish a river that I used to believe had just small musky and pike, so for a while all I threw was large bass/small muskie lures and hardly caught anything. Somehow I decided to start throwing the standard sized musky lures (9" suicks, double 8's, topraiders, etc.) and started to catch a lot more fish and bigger ones too. Basically what I'm saying is it won't hurt to throw big lures, small fish will still hit them and you might be surprised with some bigger fish as well.

Just stick to 6" regular muskie lures, like the 6" Jake, 6" Grandma, 6" Believer, 6" Depthraider. You won't go wrong. As the season progresses you can size up a bit for the muskies. For pike, so long as the water is cool, a 1 oz. spoon will get their interest. For inline spinners you can start with the regular Mepps Muskie Killer in early season; or a Giant Killer with a single tail. They are not too big for northerns. As the water warms up, you can try the Magnum Muskie Killer with a tandem tail. Or the Giant Killer with a tandem tail. There are lots of choices.
Don't buy anything just because it is cheap. But you don't need to spend your fortune to catch fish.

My favorite small spinnerbait is a Fudally candy spin. It's like 51/2" and 1.2oz. I've caught 12in pike and had 4ft muskies chasing that little thing around. If u wanna catch 20in pike just use a johnson silver minnow with a twister tail on it. Pike will hit anything! Try some bulldawgs, ddd, or depthraiders on the steeper breaks for the muskies

I would second the 6" size lures and would add in the Lil Ernie as one of those. Our pike killer.

Also, the red and white Mepps Musky Killer, over weed beds, is an absolute pike magnet.
