| Was looking to get a new jerkbait rod. I'm 6'4 and prefer a longer rod. I was thinking of either the St. Croix Legend Tournament Top and Tail or Long Ranger. The biggest Jerkbait I would utilize is a 7-1/2" phantom. |

Location: S.Wisconsin | I have the top n tail and would stay away from that if looking to throw jerks and glides with it. It is a awesome stick for topwaters and small tails but it would be a bit soft for what you want in my opinion. my jerkbait rod is a custom built on a 7' rainshadow blank. |

Location: Palm Coast, FL | If you are wanting longer meaning around 8' I have a few in mind for you. I am also offering $20 off any rod in addition to sale prices.
This one will give more flex in the tip being a heavy rated rod:

If you want something a little more reasonable but still great quality and lifetime warranty this XH rod will do:

If you are wanting something a bit more stiff and top of the line components look at this model:

Location: midwest | If you want a longer jerkbait rod, talk to your local cutom builder. I have a custom Diamonback as my jerkbait rod built at 7'7''. The only way I was able to get the power and action in the legnth I wanted was having a custom rod built to suit my preference. I have a custom jerbait rod from Dadson's custom rods, but other can provide whatever you choose. If you are in the upper Wisconsin/Minnesota area , Thornes can build a custom Preadator Jerkbait rod for you. They are very nice blanks. Keep your options open and don't settle, but look into creating your ideal rod through a custom builder. |

Location: Smith Creek | The sling blade would be much better glider rod than the long ranger or top n tail. |

| I did a rod like this in 2011. This is just personal preference, but I preferred a blank with some stiffness to get more snap out each jerk. If I were to build another one, I would also consider lightness in the handle to help reduce fatigue over a very long day. (this is just begging for a wisacre comment...)
I ended up building on a Premier H blank 2 years ago, and eneded up at 8'4". That blank felt the best to me in my price range, but there are certainly plenty of alternatives out there. The best thing you can do is go to your builder and feel each blank yourself. They each have subtle differences that you are not going to pick up unless you hold them and see how they feel. |

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | Another vote for Slingblade if you want 8'6", I really like the Big Nasty for jerkbaits. |

| Here was my thinking: I have used an LT "The Jerk" for these lures the past few seasons. While it works them very well, it does not load up as well as I would like with a fish on the line. I was thinking that using a lighter weight, fast action rod with a little less power would still let me get the snap I was looking for when working gliders (again, a 7.5" Phantom is the biggest I would use), but with less power, would load up better on a fish. |

Location: Smith Creek | Sling blade loads up really well when fishting fish, WAY more than the jerk. MHF's don't quite give you that snap on the 7.5 phantoms. |

Location: Pulaski, WI | I'm 6'-4" and think the 6'-9" Avid is the right length for a jerkbait/glider rod. Throw everything from small Phantoms to 10" Hang 10's with it. Of course I fish out of a bass boat and like to get the rod almost vertical... |

Location: MN | I use a top and tail for my glide baits and love it. I have it paired with a curado 300 and it is my most comfortable set up. The tip is soft enough and snaps back to get that bait to work with ease, but it has goo backbone for solid hook sets

| i was going back and forth concerning a jerkbait rod myself recently and ended up with the st croix legend 7'9" heavy - moderate fast - lipstick rod rated at 2 - 6 oz baits with a curado 301 on it. although this rod was designed as a crankbait rod according the croix website, i talked to a few out their that suggested that since i did not want a "conventional" short, very stiff action rod that this would be the way to go and wow were they right. i used the rod for the first time yesterday and not only did it handle all the crankbaits great as it was designed to, it also did a great job with the jerk / glidebaits i tried it with...6" & 8" reef hawgs, 6" & 7 1/2" phantoms, 8" hellhounds, 6" & 7" crane baits, 7 3/4" warlocks, 8" mantas, 6" stalkers and some others in that small to medium size range which is what i mostly throw along with topraiders and top water walk-da-dogs. the heaviest of those baits is the 7 1/2" phantom at 4.3 oz and the rod threw it very well and i would guess the rod could handle throwing baits a couple oz's heavier than that. i liked that with baits that really swing wide on slack line, like the warlock, i could "feel" that happening at the tip of the rod. as the bait hit it's widest point when turning sideways, it took up the slack line and gave the tip of the rod a slight "tap". another very nice surprise for me was how it threw db 8's like a rocket launcher and did not load too much in the eight with them. this is the first heavy moderate fast rod i have owned and i like the way it loads up deeper when throwing baits compared to fast taper rods which also means it's going to give that deeper shock absorbing bend when playing a fish which is important to me but that part didn't happen...yet... |
