I've finally built up the money to purchase a quality electronic system for my boat. I'm looking for a 5" model (price range) and I believe the Humminbird 597ci HD DI is what I would like. I know very little about electronics, but I believe this is what I want. I'm looking for gps mapping that I can waypoint, switch fire, and down imaging. Any feed back on this model or recommendations for anything else? Thanks.

I have that model with the Lakemaster Wisconsin chip. So far I like it. The only problem I've had has been in shallow water. It has a hard time registering in 4' or less. (Not a big deal.) The GPS is great, but you need the chip. I give it a thumbs up in that price range.

I'm running one one my bowmount, works good, no complaints. I replaced a Lowrance 480M with this unit, and I like it.

Thanks for the feedback. I've noticed a few others struggle in shallow water as well, not a major concern for myself. Thanks.

They struggle in shallow water, which isnt a big deal, but they also don't do well with the internal GPS antenna unless they fixed that issue with new models.
