So my dad runs a 2007 620 DVS Ranger with a 225 Mercury Verado on it. It currently has a Mercury Marine Tempest Plus 21P Stainless prop on it. This past weekend on Clear Lake I bent one blade on the prop a little. It is not terrible but it affected the top end speed about 4 mph. I am looking at trying to get it fixed at a prop repair shop but I also need to replace it. My question is, will another prop other than a tempest work and if so what am I looking for in buying a new prop. I want to stick with a 21 pitch but what diamter is it or how will i find this out. I have the manual for the motor but it doesnt give me this information.

It also says 48-825862 21P on the side of the prop.

if you're going to fix that prop and get a spare, i'd consider having a 4-blade Rev-4 so that you have 2 different styles ... one for speed and one for smooth slower cruisin' ... good prop shop will fix that one easily. make sure you check out the lower unit and i'd suggest not running it out of balance.

Ok so when a prop says 14x19 or 13 1/2x21, what does the 14 or 13 1/2 mean? I know the 19 or 21 is the pitch but i havent the foggiest clue about that first number. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hiya,

Couple of things to think about when you go to find a different prop. The big issue is that props are not created equal, and to find something similar to the tempest design will involve a bit of looking. Powertech brand propellers usually will have something similar in design. If I could suggest this....try ebay. You can get a great deal on a used prop that in many cases can be in excellent condition. I have purchased numerous props off ebay and have been extremely satisfied.

Found one on Ebay.com for $325.00 plus $25.00 shipping so I bought it. It was the exact same prop, thanks for all the info!
