Subject: Prop Question

Right now I am running a 5 blade prop on my 150 Optimax, and I get on plane incredibely quickly. But what kind of prop would give me the best high speed?

With the 150 opti on my 1800 Pro V I am getting 45 on gps.

Any suggestions?

Hiya,

Depending on what your RPMs are, a good 3 blade will do the job. I believe a tempest would do well, but before choosing a pitch, some numbers are needed...speed and rpms being the best baseline.

Hi again,

With 5400 RPM's, you are down a tad low as your max is 5750 on that motor. I should have also asked what pitch prop your your high 5 is. If you can shoot that off really quick,I'll try to help...

Hiya,

I would say a 23 pitch tempest would be pretty close as you would be dropping 2 blades, so going up 4" in pitch should be close...

In your particular case, I would see if you can either borrow a prop, or find a dealer that has a demo program (usually blue props hanging in the dealer) where they will let you try different pitches and designs to see what works best for your particular rig.

The tempest also allows you to change sizes of vent holes to dial in the motor to your desired performance for hole shot as well. That is a nice feature of the mercury props.

Thanks Steve! Looks like the tempest is going to be the way to go!
