The damn steering on my ****ing boat. It had been kinda tough going in the early mornings last couple of days. Well it was real hard turning this am, so much that I busted my steering box. Man what a bitch getting back to the launch without any steering. Thank god we were just across the river from the launch. Had to cancel my clients for 2 days [:blackeye:] Man I hope I can get it fixed tomorrow.

Anyone know if those streering boxes are standard?

No sign of ice on Tonka as of today! Some of the smaller/shallower lakes have a thin build up. Tonka should be good for awhile longer if the weather forcasters are correct in a warming trend this month!

I was wasting time with my cuz on Paint Pond Thursday afternoon (in da Yoop). Water was all open when we arrived but we watched skim ice form all around the boat as it began to get dark. It was like the alum boat was a catalyst. Water temps in the upper 30's.

By the way, we learned to minimize icing by retrieving lures with the rod tip under water and submerging all rod eyes on the figure 8. The air temps were in the upper 20's and it was breezy.

Hi All,
The water temps on Vermilion are
just above freezing. Most of the back bays are ice covered and the main lake isn't far behind.[:((]

All the Rhinelander area lakes are in the early stages of ice up, but usually are open by afternoon again if the sun is shining. George was totally open yesterday.

Tomahawk was open, so was Minoqua, but the back bays are frozen over. Several small lakes out on Hwy 70 are frozen all the way across. It is supposed to be in the 50's this Saturday, but 30's all week to that point. If it makes the 40's most days, the water here may be fine!

On Pelican Sunday. Had to break through a skim of ice on the landing but everything else was wide open. Water temps were 35-36. Weather forecast looks like we get at least this week yet.

Upper Buckatabon in Vilas county had water temps around 38°, and the boat landing had about 1/2" of ice about 100 yards out. Lower Buckatabon was completely froze over.
