How many of you keep your headlamps on while fishing at night? Has anyone noticed that the fish are spooked by keeping your light on, or unaffected? Thanks for any information.

No need to have the headlamp on. It will just attract bugs, and you will eat through batteries. You'll also be eating the bugs especially since the best nightfishing nights are also those when the bugs are terrible.

Get a headlamp that is easy to turn on. As soon as you hook a fish you and anyone else in the boat should get the headlamps on as soon as you can. Of course you need to be in control of the fish before turning yours on. I don't know about it spooking fish if you leave it on all the time, but I knopw for certain it will spook them if you turn it on with the fish at the boatside.

It's nice to have a headlamp that has at least two settings. A flood for general things like changing lures and such. The second a spot light function for when you are fighting a fish or netting for someone. Those cat-eye type really suck when it comes to netting fish, as do colored bulbs.

I've never noticed it effect the fishing, I tend to forget and leave it on after getting a fish off or changing a bait. At least till bugs followed by bats try to buzz my head

Use a green light at night it you want to leave a light on while fishing. It enables you to see them, especially if you see one following and then figure 8, without spooking them.

It just doesn't get any better than at boat side in the dark. All you can say is WOW.

Yeah not sure how the rod broke but it happened just seconds into the fight when she was going crazy. The rod was less than a week old, called the good folks at St. Croix and they are taking care of it including the return shipping.
