I bought my first "grinder" last night. It comes packaged with the "stinger" hook already on. I'm thinking of taking it off on the theory that it will collect weeds. I'm also thinking of somehow burying it in a twister tail - kind of texas rigging it so the hook can stay on but I won't lose any of it's weedless capabilities.

If I take it off, the skirt will extend considerably beyond the main hook.

Your thoughts?

It won't be an issue. I would not throw a spinnerbait without the stinger.

If you plan on keeping the stinger hook on make sure it has a piece of tubing holding it on.I just bought 2 grinders one had tubing and one did not,the one that did not have the tubing the stinger hook was gone first cast .

I'd change to a smaller hook, they are monstous and they don't need to be that big 5/0-7/0 will do (mines got something like 10/0 on)
