I'm wondering if you can troll with the cardiff or calcutta te? I won't be doing this a whole lot but would like to know if they could hold up if not done excessively...thank you.

I'm sure the Calcutta could handle any trolling you throw at it. I'm not that familiar with the Cardiff to give an opinion on. A lot of people use reels like this for salmon trolling and a Dipsey Diver is A LOT harder on a reel than any musky bait is.

How deep do they run?

Its not often you see someone sending a te to the depths.

I'm confused with these "can you troll with a ...." posts. Why couldn't you troll with a reel? All it needs is a line out alarm which 90% of all musky reels have. The drag or anti reverse don't even need to work since you set the drag loose anyways....

I don't have a line counter and have trolled with my calcutta & my toro winch - I have a clamp on the rod shakespeare line counter that I picked up for $10 and run the line through for line counting.
Doesn't get a whole lot easier or cost effective then that - especially for folks who don't troll enough to justify a separate trolling rod & line counter reel much like myself.
