Location: Detroit River | I painted & replaced the wood & carpet in my '86 Sea Nymph FM145 several years ago (sorry no pics). I got the paint from a boating supply place & followed the directions on the can. The prior owner had painted the boat several times so I used paint stripper to remove the 3 or 4 layers of paint & graphics that the previous owner had put on. I wasn't able to strip off the factory paint because I think that stuff was baked on or something. I sanded the boat down so the new paint would hold better. I originally tried to use the marine primer I bought from the marine supply place but I couldn't use the spray gun because the primer kept clogging the spray gun. The first coat went on great for my first attempt. I bought a second can (same brand but newer label) of paint to apply a second coat & finish the inside but the second can was thinner than the first can so I ended up with some runs in the paint. The paint has held up good on the outside of the boat except for the dock rash. I wasn’t so thorough on sanding the inside of the boat & I had spots were the new paint flaked off.
