Location: Muskegon Michigan | Hi guys I need your help in a big way. My wife fishes the St. Croix reels Avid 250 and 300 and is having trouble with double 10s. I need a rod and reel combo that will not work her so hard but can not jump up to a huge reel. Are there power handles available for the Avid 300? if so where do I go to get them? What is considered to be the best lower geared smaller reel for this job? I am sure there are many more rods that will work but getting reel that will fit her hands and geared right is going to be tough. Mike |

| Yes on power handles (Do a google search to find your answer on place to buy). If you do some reading, gear ratio does not make a reel a better choice for big blades other factors play a larger role (beating a dead horse).
Why dont you just spool the reel 3/4 full of line, it will make the retrieval easier. |

Location: Smith Creek | SC has power handles available in their retail store (1800-826-7042 ext. 119). I think the AC300A handles them better than the 400b. Curado or Revo might handle them better, IDK.
Does your wife need a level wind? If not you can get into an AVET 5.3 SX for around 150-200. Paired with a big dawg burning 10's is really easy. The reel only weighs 14 oz. |

might i suggest a tackle industries rod? 8'6" xh for your wife should be a great set up. |

| for dbl 10's i like a 8 or 9 foot Xxh rod with a revo toro Winch. Right now i have an 8'6" Okuma with a toro winch for 10's and it works very well. I would like to get a lighter rod thou. |

Im in contact with James right now on a tackle industries rod for her she can put her modified St. Croix reel on it and I think she will be fine. And again thanks a ton guys. Mike |
