get the tooth tamer 8'6xh or h, IMO much better rods than the others. shimano makes a great rod but the new two piece rods have gotten less than stellar reviews and the mojos have tiny foregrips and short handles.

The bulldawg rods are like a tree branch. I used one for 2 years. They didn't load up very well and are very heavy.

8'6" T.I. XH with a 400B

The best combo listed and just add a Power Handle and you got a winner.

yes, the calcutta is much better ...

that 400b with a power handle is a reel you will enjoy and for a long, long time.

Definitely get the 400b, as far as rods go try and handle as many rods as you can. I just used a 7'6" mojo paired with a. 400b for the first time last night for jerks and really liked it, I didn't think the handle was to short, its all personal preference.

I own both reels and have used them for years.

I just talked with a reel repair expert about this. I sent in my AC300 in for repair. It needed a new part for the anti-reverse. He said that the AC300s have a consistent problem with this part wearing out.

In contrast, he said that the Calcuttas don't have any significant problems.

Both are good reels. But be prepared for more frequent repairs on the AC300.

When i was in the market for a new rod and reel(i was dead set on a mojo 8' MH) i went to my local musky shop, i held the mojo rod then i held the TI 8'6" XH, the TI felt the best for me.

Go out to the store and handle them first if you can.

Calcutta 400b -1st, but i also have a few SC AC300's which are smoother, but there is concern about the anti reverse going out. Never happened on mine and i love the AC300 but i also take care of my stuff. Add one of these reels to a TI XH 8 or 9' rod and you are ready for pretty much anything.

and as someone mentioned above, the Mojo rods have short handles and foregrips. As far as i am concerned they aren't in the same league as TI or Tooth Tamer

I would go with the Tooth Tamer rod. 8'6" heavy action is a good option as it would be good for using a variety of baits. As for reels I like Abu Garcia but any of the above would work good.

Tackle Industries 9'XH with a Shimano TE400. Best rod I own and I have a few high end rods. Love the TI action much better than my other H or XH rods. You can really launch the lures out there.
