Just curious what your thoughts are on versus the 300 e and EJ. I currently have a 300 e and love however was curious how they compared to each other. I use my 300 e for jerks, gliders dive and rise and use my 5:4 revo toro for blades, cranks , topp h2o and everything else..

Just debating what to do

Bryce: The EJ has 6.9 gears, so this reel will not have any cranking power for blades. What this reel will have is fast line pickup of 32" for Walk the Dog baits or jerk baits.

I have a 300EJ and it works just fine for blades. I always keep my tip pointed towards the lure so it keeps resistance to a minimum and I will say i dont throw anythign bigger than 10's but i have had zero issues with it at all. It does force you to slow down with some baits because the retrieve is fast compared to the Revo Toro. I shyed away from the the toro because ive heard they get worn quicker and things seem to loosen up faster even though its lower geared. Im not saying they are junk, i honestly couldnt say that without having used it, but from what ive heard is they wear quicker than shimano.

The 300e and 300EJ are amost the same, except for the power handle. I have both and cant really tell much difference, but i prefer the power handle.

I too use an EJ paired with a Sling Blade as my <= 10s blade rod. I have no problems with them. No, you can't "BURN" them, but you can move them pretty fast without a lot of effort.

So if you figure you are already reeling quicker with the eEJthen why even consider a lower gear ratio. I mean the point of blades is to keep them moving to entice fish. Lower gear ratio sure for power but they are slow. And for those of us who can't see spending tons on multiple reels the 300ej is a nice blade reel. I have a 300e and 300ej and that's it besides a 6600 ssc3 reel for suckers.

i have a ej, i crank my drag as tight as it will go and i can still get some line to peel off when i set the hook or snag, is this normal or do i need to send it back?

Curado 300E and the EJ only have 1 drag washer above the the main gear, where as most other musky reels have 3 - 5 drag washers, so the Curado will not have alot of top end stopping power like a Toro or Calcutta B or TE but you should be able to lock down the drag. I say that it has oil or grease in the drag system.

If I had a Curado that would be first thing I would do, is to get the small stock fiber washer out and install a oversized Carbontex drag washer kit.
