COOL! I hadn't heard from Steve Hogler yet, as to how many fish they got. Looks like they got some nice ones though...

Thanks for posting this Sam!

The muskies ranged from 34 to 54 inches in length.

Sounds like the ladies are getting longer...

Right now, 3000 per year. Plans are underway to explore options to get more space at the hatchery. Due to the VHSv concern, they cannot use the normal hatchery in Wild Rose. So they are using the Besadny Anadromous Fish Facility in Kewaunee, but there's only enough room (right now) to rear 3000 fingerlings per year. We're trying to work with the DNR to grow that number, and in fact the manager there is coming to our MI chapter meeting this coming Wednesday. It's at the Green Bay Yachting Club, at 1900 hours, and it's open to the public.

I'll post more once I have more details, but there are couple options that we are working on. But if we could help the DNR get up to their goal of 20,000 fingerlings reared annually, then they would have enough fingerlings to stock some into the Winnebago system as well. Right now though, they don't even have but a fraction of what they want to stock back into the bay...

For starters, you can come to the meeting tomorrow night at 1900 hours...and we'll find out together!

In case you haven't figured it out already, I am not quite sure yet either. We're supposed to be getting the details of the various options tomorrow night.

Emailed Steve Holger myself on Monday. His response to how things went:

"The netting went well. We caught 45 fish in four nets in one night. The largest was 52 ½” and 37 pounds. We had plenty of females and we took enough eggs to hopefully stock 3000 fingerlings this fall."
