Just curious what your thoughts are on the MN Legislature voting on having 800,000 boaters take and invasive species examine to get certified? Personally doesn't really bother me. I guess I am curious what they plan to do with all the outstate boaters fishing in MN waters. Are they planning on larger fines for those boaters? Its evident by the zera mussel problem that they came from outside MN.

is there a number we can call so that we can get the course fee increased ... or maybe see if they'll provide us a stamp for a fee to go with it??

Zebra Mussels came from the harbors in Lake Superior, which are MN waters! These are my thoughts; what's next? To properly clean off a boat you need to spray it down with something like 140 degree water. To do this, those cleaning stations would need to be manned by someone since people are too stupid to do it on their own without getting burned.

So they get manned. Then what? They open close at certain hours and that makes early morning/evening/night fishing out of the question?

How much will it cost, keep charging the anglers fees and the sport of fishing will (suposedly) keep shrinking. Why aren't the international shipping companies footing any of the bill?

Maybe MN will come up with a great law like mandating you have to have an AIS sticker on your boat...that will really solve a lot of problems...oh wait, they already did that and it starts this year. :/

Zebra Mussels came to MN from WI? Have you checked the Mississippi River for Zebra mussels? Doesn't The Miss run through MN? They are thick throughout the river system and eventually will be in the entire length of it including every lake connected to it. Your Legislatures must drink with our Governor.

I hate the idea too but people who have studied this say that the other cheaper alternative is to just limit the amount of days you can use your boat,,would you want that instead

Is it really unreasonable to read a sticker so you understand the rules, slap it somewhere on the inside of your boat, and make sure your boats clean when you move it from a lake? i think its much better than the alternative. i would not wanna have a dock in a Michigan lake right now

Is it really unreasonable?

It's not unreasonable.

However, the better question is whether or not it's a cost-effective way to slow/stop the spread of AIS. Are there other strategies for educating the boating public that would be just as effective (or more) and less likely to pee people off?

The real question is how much of it is driven by media hyperbole a la the 10PM news and how much is the DNR getting up in arms about it. From the MN DNR folks I have had the opportunity to speak to, they are as annoyed by a lot of it as we are. They do not want to turn anglers into violators, but the media and political pressure is pushing them in that direction.

I'm still waiting for a reporter to get the bright idea that mallards should wear diapers or some other poppycock in order to stop the spread of Milfoil. You know it is coming.

Well the fact that we are doing something should make a lot of people happy as it is a step above many other states. i personally dont get the roadside checks but i think the access inspections and decontaminations are going to help a lot. I just dont understand why most Minnesotan fisherman would have issues with this. if some guy is gonna try to pull a boat out thats just caked with zebra mussels who wouldnt want him stopped?

The Minn dnr had an invasive species display at the Minn muskie expo couple weeks back they had a mounted big head carp,,samples of zebra mussels. preserved milfoil and spiney water fleas in test tubes, all the invasive species.
feeling it was incomplete I walked over and added a green bay packers hat to the display because we see so many of these invading our Minn boat ramps

Does Minnesota even have a football team? Last I heard they were testing out the name Los Angeles Queens. (LA already has a Kings, so does Sacramento)

Maybe you guys need a Minnesota Vikings stamp.

I wouldn't buy one of those either.
