| 1. Good rain gear
2. Find the warmest water you can
3. Waterproof boots
4. Whiskey
#1 - you'll still get wet. But less wet is always better than more wet.
#2 - Warm shallow bays and the areas adjacent to that would be a place to start
#3 - wet feet suck. Cold wet feet suck even more.
#4 - when all else fails, a shot or two in your coffee makes you not care that you are wet, cold, and that all else has failed!
As a side note? Fishing in East winds and rain is better than sitting at home wishing you were out there.

You hit the nail on the head there, sir.

| Pass on the rain and cold day. Do something that really needs to be done; and do the fishing when conditions improve. | |

Location: Maine Township, MN | I found the secret is good warm rain gear. Ever since I bought my Cabelas insulated Guidewear, I feel comfortable fishing in any weather situation (except tornados and lightning).

| If I only fished on pretty days, I probably wouldn't catch much. | |

| I've caught my biggest early season muskies on cold, rainy days. Find the warmest water, find green weeds, and make contact with them with bucktails, dive-and-rise, or gliders. You might be surprised. It usually happens right after I say the hell with this, let's go home after this pass. | |

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | Those conditions would more than likely be psuhing the fish that were sitting shallow out a bit deeper. Look at the first deep break or flat. The fish will slide off their shallow haunts to that first break or flat. I would target near bottom, but if that doesn't work try higher in the column. Deeper flats (15-20') early in the year during a cold front can be dynamite.
I would think finding warmer water, based on your transducer, during those conditions will be tough. The cold rain will cool the sruface temp down to where most/all of the lake will be reading near the same.
Nearest, deeper green weeds is a good sugestion as well, and those fish will likely be tucked into them. Running a crank that you can't rip through when hitting the weeds has been very productive for me. Also fishing an Ace minnowbait with a pull, stop, pull, stop, etc... retrieve gives the fish enough time to come up out of those weeds to eat. Also look at running a Hardhead, tail up with no front weight or a small one, slowly. Either slow retrieve with a few pauses to let it drop in pockets, or a lift, fall retrieve.
Another great bait to try would be a Talonz Little Claw. Awesome little twitch bait early in the year, and I know the MI fish love that lure.
Good luck. Those conditions suck.
