Which pose for a replica?

Guys:

I put my deposit down on a replica from Fittante at the MN musky expo.

Question is which "pose" do you guys like best?

- Normal?
- S curve?

The only thing I know for sure right now is the head is going to left!

I have two Fittanti replicas, one a tail down and one an "S" curve. If you want to emphasize the length of your fish, don't go with an "S" curve as it ends up looking shorter than it actually is (will measure out to the correct lenght though. Don't get me wrong, I love both mounts. I personally would go with the normal (Tail down, back arch, straight or curve out).

Bar none closed mouth natural look, for me open mouth looks brutal

Go with a "soft S"....maintains length and gives a feeling of motion

Mr. Bondy that is a fantastic looking replica. It looks just like most of the muskies I encounter...with their yaps shut tight! I have some 30ish year old skin mounts fron Joe, and they still are beautiful. I'm thinking I need to get a replica of a fat Mille Lacs 44" northern I got with a walleye in it's mouth doing the walleye flaired gill/skrunched shut mouth flat head thingey going on. Thanks for sharing.

Why don't you pick what you like? Who gives a hoot what others think? Is it their fish?

I hear all of PP replicas of his fish have closed mouths, they know they will never get a word in hanging on PP walls in his house. LOL LOL LOL

LMAO!!

Nice!

heheheh!

Personally, I like the closed mouth pose. The teeth are cool, but I like the replicas that show them how we normally see them. Of course in my case, that replica would just be the tail as it swims away!

And the eyes never look quite right, either.

My idea was to make it look alive, not like it was belching. Everyone already knows they have teeth, even lttle kids.

I'm another sucker for the closed mouth. Fittante did an awesome job on mine a couple years ago and I can definitely dig it!

Thanks to all that responded.

I asked because people have different opinions and they bring up things that I may not have thought about, such as a closed mouth instead of an open mouth.

Here is mine monster pike.
Joe did an awesome Job on it.
The style of the replica is called "tail-down out-curve".

I wonder if they can do a pose with the mouth clamped down on a bait (not just an open mouth with the bait hanging out). That would be pretty sweet.

I think the open mouth works for an S curve, so it looks like the fish is actually about to attack something. I really like Joel's idea with a lure clamped in it's mouth.

I would go with a closed mouth also as I prefer that pose but especially in a replica because I've yet to see a replica's open mouth look anything near natural.

There was a thread similar to this titled something like "Let's see your replicas." You can see about 4 pages worth of photos and discussions.

Personally, I think the mouth hugely agape looks ridiculous. On the other end of the spectrum I think the mouth shut looks strange, too, and you lose a sense of the unique toothy traits these fish have. To address Jon's comment, although we know they have teeth others may not and it would certainly be a conversation starter for anyone not familiar with the fish that might happen to view it. Plus, aren't we partly chasing these critters because they DO have teeth that signify "apex predator"? Personally, I would want to be reminded of that every time I look at it. I'm having Fittante do a replica with the mouth slightly agape (tail down) and chose it after seeing a photo on the aforementioned thread.

Bottom line is everyone has their personal opinions and tastes much like beer, food, art, and women!

I like the open mouth too. From going to the MN expo and seeing guys replicas, I notice that both Lax and Fittante's replica's look so much better in person. Photos never do them justice.

S curve with open mouth. Artistic Anglers is doing mine. I'll post a pic in 6 or 7 months when it's done.

I had my fish done at Fittante's and it was with the tail down and slight S cure and mouth open. I tried to simulate the attack pose before biting the lure. It turned out very nice.
