| Heard some good things this system is much closer to me than LOTW. Was thinking about giving it a try this summer was looking for input about lodges and who to go with. Don't care about anything else but musky. Any insight would be appreciated |

| Fished the french river last two years.Once in last week of september 2011,and second week in august 2012.Bryer lodge on wolesly bay.6 of us loaded for muskie.Down here in pennsylvania over the last 5 years we have easily boated over 200 muskie.We've gone to french the last 2 years and did not even raise 1muskie.Threw everything possible,bucktails,jerkbaits,crankbaits and lots of trolling.My brother says we must be the dumbest fishermen in the world to go to french river and not be able to catch even 1 lunge.Any suggestions.Thanks |

| That area of the french gets hit really hard week after week. Your better off in Nip and get away from camps. |

Location: Cave Run Lake KY. | We fished the upper french for one week Oct. 2010 and got skunked. ever thing was great but not one musky , we fished every bay all the way out into The Nip the big lake had 4FT whitecaps on it had to stay on the river. Great resort . Good Food But no fish. Someone caught a monster walley, Thing, look like it went 20 # caught it under a boathouse near the resort. LOOK them up on their web sight, ( LUNGE LODGE UPPER FRENCH RIVER ) I'd go back there again just to stay at the resort. Good Fishing to you Marv. ( IV'E BEEN EVERY WHERE MAN ) |

| General comments are that the french river is over fished.When we were there last year we watched two guys pull their anchor in with a gill net stuck to it,a good 3 dozen very nice sized dead walleye in it.Heard this is a real problem on the french.Thinking about the west arm of lake nipp issing next year for muskie and walleye.Anyone familiar with that area. |

| Gill netting by the local tribe has always been an issue on the French, and in recent years stealing. I'd say lock it up, but they carry bolt cutters.

Location: Kingston, Ontario | We go up to lower french river and fish there and into the mouth where it flows into Georgian bay. We've caught a few over the last couple years, all off good size. Our best year was last August catching 2, 46 and 40. Fishing was very tough that trip, 2 cold fronts through in 4 days. At that end, it is rare to see more than a couple fishing boats in a weekend.
We've had some really good fishing trips down this way when the weather is stable. Very good multi species, huge pike, good bass and good walleye and a few bonus muskie if we're lucky. |

The netting is an issue, like it is on countless watersheds across Ontario.The keeping of fish over the daily limit is also an issue violated by both visiting anglers and locals alike.
As for the stealing, We have been going up to the Upper French for 25 years usually 2-3 trips a season. We leave our vehicle at the Dokis Rez and have left my boat there for over a month between trips. Nothing has ever been stolen or vandalized.
I know many of the First Nations people on the rez personally and consider them friends. There are however a few bad eggs as you would have with any group of people.

| This is a reply to the post regarding the "stealing" on the french by the "local tribe" . I am Mohawk, not related to the Dokis band whatsoever. When I told you my ancestors had been there, I was referring the the war parties that had come up those rapids to raid the french and Ojibwe. And the canoes were not "stolen". The AMERICAN canoes that had been abandoned in a Canadian Provincial Park were moved downstream and stacked where everyone else puts their boats ( which have been tagged by the MNR for removal). Not in the middle of a rapids that should be a Heritage site. How would you feel if I decided to leave a boat in yellowstone , right next to old faithfull. I mean, It'd be alot more convenient for me than to bring it back and forth right? By the way, I don't work out there anymore, but I camp on the river almost every weekend from may to november (arctic tent-woodstove). The French River is a truly beautiful place, not just for fishing, but for sitting, thinking, watching the Eagle and Osprey in the sky. I had a couple Osprey learn to take fish guts from the shorelunch. Just like your buddy down there. Either way I just wanted to clear the people of Dokis's name on that one. They had nothing to do with that.

My response "Yep" was meant to be equivocal..
I know you guided at Chaudière last summer. I've spent a lot more time than one summer on this watershed.
Trust me the netting is only part of the problem. |

| Well when I moved the canoes I was all alone so I'm pretty sure nobody from dokis had anything to do with it. And once again they werent stolen, I told the individuals exactly where they were stored. As previously stated, I have honor in all my actions, and didn't want someone being blamed for something they had no knowledge about. By the way, the bolt cutters were broken and didnt close properly. I used an axe. |
