The best advise you'll get is to not over fill the spool try to fill it about 1/2 to 3/4 full depending on the reel you have. Also fill it with a heavier line that stays round and doesn't flatten out, like a 100# Power Pro or similar. These two things will help keep the line spooling as even as possible without building up one side.
Rest assured the reel will frustrate you a little at the beginning but in pretty short order you'll get the hang of it and will be burning the blades in like never before.
