| Just brought in a broken Compre and got one of the new 2 piece 8'6" XH Compres. Couple things I noticed that I don't like. One is they seem heavier than the old rods and are not balanced well. They are extremely tip heavy. The other is the "friction" system that keeps the two pieces together. I am envisioning a sandpaper concept where the more you take it apart and put it back together the more it will wear and eventually will fail.
I am seriously considering duct taping or gluing the two pieces together. Any thoughts on these rods from folks that tested them out or have been using them? |

| I just bought the 9' two piece Compre, and I agree the rod does feel heavier when I compare it to my others. I thought after putting the reel on it would help balance, but it is very tip heavy. Thinking of exchanging mine. Disappointing as I have two other one piece Compre's that have been awesome. |

| Not trying to make excuses for shimano but isn't this the first year or soothe compre's have been available over 8ft? Maybe some design flaws. And what rods are you comparing them to when you refer to them as heavy? |

| Yes, it is the first year for rods over 8'. They also have split grips now. I have a 7'6" Compre and my dad has an 8' and a 7'6". Compared to those and 9' XH TI rods (both split-grip and full-cork) the newer Compres seem heavy overall and very tip-heavy. |

| Was just wondering about these new Compre's, so I'll try and revive this thread. I have several of the old model, but always thought the 8' to be a bit bulky compared to the others( 6'8", 7'6", etc). Just bought a new 7'6" XHC to use in place of my old 6'8" XHC and I think it feels about the same weight-wise, but is a bit tip-heavy. Likely due to the reduced weight in the butt. Really like the split-cork and exposed blank, though.
I'm interested in any further comments about the newer 8'+ rods, mainly for throwing big bucktails, bulldawgs, etc. Considering replacing my old 8' with one of these, but being from the mid-west I can't get my hands on any to feel.
Thanks in advance! |

Location: Madison, WI | I have a 8' one piece compre i picked up last year. I love it, but what i dont love is when i bought it i was told it had a lifetime over the counter warranty that could be utilized if anything breaks or fails. Which brings me to where I am now with a broken tip, not a broken rod, but broken graphite insert in the top guide. So i took it off and put a new one on the day it happend and now they will not replace it. Maybe its my fault for wanting to continue fishing and putting a new tip on but regardless of what I did, it broke. Sorry to hyjack the thread, just whining. Now for my real point....I have 0 complaints about the new compre's except for the unbalanced feel. Thats all, and after using it awhile you dont notice it. |

| Interesting Missouri, where'd you hear that? I wonder if that's why BPS or Cabelas in Missouri can't bring in anything above 7'6".
Thanks EsoxAddiction. Are you talking about the new split-grip model, or the older full grip?

Location: Smith Creek | Guys thought they were telescoping so they'd beat em on the floor to retract them, not realizing they were tip over butt ferrules. So they got stuck together and were nearly impossible to pull apart. |

| So, Shimano tells me everything over 8' is telescoping (yet their site says 2 piece). Cabelas in MN says they have three one-piece (non-telescoping) 8'6" XHC models and I'm wondering if the guy just needs to bang it on the floor. Were the original "new" models 2 piece, and they've discontinued them and replaced with telescoping?
Wondering if all the new Compre's are still a work in progress, and I need to just avoid them for this year and take an educated chance on a 9' TI XH instead (since several here seem to like them). Love shopping for rods without being able to hold them!

| I do not own a Compre 2 Piece Rod but do own one of the new 2 piece Tackle Industries(TI) rods and they are only about a half oz to one oz more in weight vs the same solid 9' rods I own from TI. Just wondering why the new Compre 2 Piece Rods would weigh more vs their current line of solid or telescopic rods? |
