I don't think so. What antenna are you using, and which charts are you using?

GPS accuracy is dependent on several factors, all of which I am not an expert on. But I do know that there is a difference in accuracy based upon the antenna in use--the Lowrance units now have built-in antennas, but if you want enhanced accuracy, you can buy an external unit. The accuracy is also based upon the number of satellites being used to calculate your position; more satellites mean greater accuracy. Garmin touts that their products use like 10 or 12 channels (satellites) simultaneously, as I recall. So it might well be that your GPS is as accurate as it's going to get.

I suppose the outline of the water on the maps could be in the wrong place, geographically-speaking. If you are using built-in maps, you might get a better result using a Navionics or Lakemaster chip. I know I did with an old Lowrance unit I had. The built-in maps were like you're seeing--off by a couple hundred feet, if not more. But once I got a Navionics chip, the accuracy improved significantly.

So it may well be a number of things causing the apparent discrepancy, in this case.

I'm not an expert, but could the mapping chip be the issue? I run a 788 CI and fish Lake Minnetonka which has many channels and I do not experience this issue with my Lakemaster chip. I also have the puck and not the internal antenna.

the unit has the navi pkg downloaded to the unit no chip.
