Location: N.FIB | ok,seen some muskie tatoos but wondering if it`s possible to get branded on say your arm with some kind of muskie shape or something.does anybody know anything about this,how to get something like this done and also how to get one formed in the shape of a muskie,cost of that.just thought of this as I saw some commercial with something being branded and it popped in my head. |

And I have to assume building the mold would be expensive as well.
So between the medical bills and the cost of the mold (not to mention the excrutiating pain that lasts for weeks) I suggest going with a tat. |

And what do you do when you're tired of looking at it or when you get older and look at it and say to yourself, "Why did I do that?!" And end up regretting it.
I see a LOT of people that get tats that got them when "living in the moment" and regret it years down the road when they matured, interests changed, priorities changed, etc.
I think most people don't think big picture, long-term, down the road...... |

Location: Eau Claire,WI | Basically they heat bend a metal rod into the shape,get it red hot then touch it to your skin.repeat... Not too fun... I have seen it done in tattoo shops,it is not the most sterile thing and like was said before serious risk of infection. If you are serious,go to a shop and ask them. I have a HUGE tollerance for pain and would NEVER even think of getting branded...Ever see cattle when they get branded,now you have to lay there STILL...My two cents. |

| Man up! Get a propane torch and a clothes hanger and free hand it on your arm!
Seriously though I looked into a brand a couple years ago, I don't like tattoes and thought a brand would be different, and decided against it. It will hurt like a you know what because they can't numb it first. The risk of infection is high. And to be real honest unless you are black they don't look very good on a person. |

| If you think musky tats look bad, I can only imagine how awful a musky brand would look. Brands should be simple designs, a musky is not a simple design. Even if you do get one simple enough to brand decently we're back at the original point, it would look awful. |

If you go to a jankly little place and they don't use the best color then it will tend to fade. You will find tat shops with guys that get paid like 150-200 bucks an hour. If you were looking at getting a tat make sure you find a guy/shop where the rates are higher. Not only will the overall quality of the art be better but the stuff used on you to complete the tat will be of a higher quality as well. I Have a few tattoos, some in color and some in black and white. I have had my color one for almost ten years and none of my colors have faded yet... And if they did start to fade I would pay the $100 to get it re-finished. I also have no regrets either. Don't just get something that you would think to be cool, make sure it has meaning. If it has meaning at one time in your life, in theory it will have meaning the rest of your life. Just make sure to choose carefully. Both my arms have them all over, but every single one is close to my heart. I don't agree what people say about "every ones who gets tatted regrets it... maybe some do... but there are reasons not to get it done while your drunk...  |

Location: Illinois | 55 if you get a musky brand it should be done from a campfire and cooled in the waters of your favorite musky lake! It'd probably put you out of commish for a while recovering- if you decide to actually do this, if it goes well and heals properly- then you should get a musky tatted on the scarred skin. 3D!

| Really, my brother-in-law has his HS football number branded on his arm. Him and 3 or 4 other players thought it would be cool to have thier numbers. Completely retarded if you ask me. A musky brand on the other hand, would be worth the pain. Hah, lol. I know he said it hurt like hell and did get infected but I don't remember what they used to make the brand (the numbers) but it was not professionally done by any means. That was 15 years ago and the brand looks pretty decent yet today. The only musky brand that would ever work though would just be a silhouette, kinda like the red october logo. |

As mentioned above a bent heated hanger will do. In 1970 our crew did our initials in our top forarms out or irons we made at chrome shop we worked in. Still see it when tan.. TW.
Also have a biker initiation on under forearm...Everyone at party blew off a round from a 12 gauge until barrel was good an hot then Capt. Ziggy would BRAND ya with the smoken hot barrel tube. That one you can see clearly 42 years later :0
Both pretty stinky affairs an hurt like %$# next day an into follow work week, but my mind was not of this world at the time being fogged by many a liquid, plant or chemical.

I don't want to seem insulting. But think again. In the olden days American ranchers branded cattle to identify them. In some societies it was okay to brand slaves--if they were bad. But we don't do slavery anymore. And it might not be a good idea to burn an id. onto a cow. Get some muskie decals for your tackle box, boat trailer, or house windows. ("Sure he's a nut.") Buy a couple muskie T-shirts and a hoodie with a fish on it. Let your skin alone. Who knows, you may become a crappie angler and then the muskie brand will be irrelevant and offensive.

Location: Iowa | If you want it, go for it! I got my first tattoo 19 years ago. Each one represents a stage of my life. I don't regret any, and doubt I ever will. I have friends with brands that look good. Only reason I don't have one is lack of detail. I do have a couple self inflicted ones though. Get a buddy, and cigarette, put your arms together on a table, and drop the burning cigarette on your arms where they meet. If you move first, you lose. I won both times. Your body, your decision.

He may even prescribe a more powerful burn ointment than your standard Neosporin. I’m sure if in a clean environment, you can prevent infections and be happy with the experience and result. |

A brand might look cool now and 30 years from now somebody will ask 'WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO YOU?' and you'll try to explain it and they just won't see it. |

| I say go for it! Do what you want to do, it's your body! But, i would say a tattoo would be way better idea. Find a good reputable artist, and have them work something up for you. I know Tattoos by Rick, in Green Bay has some musky flash to get you a starting point, and he's hands down the best artist, with the most experience, in WI. He's not cheap, and it takes a few months to get an appointment, but that should speak for his work.
But you CAN tattoo over scar tissue, so if your brand doesn't work, get it covered with a tat! |

May be true and you may use it as an excuse to justify your decision to brand but why risk it? Because its cool? To show how tuff you are? You are risking your health and your own mental well being if in the future you realize it was a mistake. I heard this very same statement from a young airmen who worked for me before I retired for the service. He got a piercing without giving it much thought. The piercing got infected and we only found out about it after we confronted him when we realized his was physically ill - major infection almost cost him his life and it did cost him his military career. As I used to tell all the airmen under my charge, you go ahead and do whatever you life, family and career can withstand (or survive). But remember to give strong consideration to those people who offered sage advice to the contrary. |

| Had a buddy in my younger days who thought it would be cool to brand himself with his errr ahhh... well, let's call it a metal tobacco pipe. Burned some nice circles into his forearm. It was "cool" when we were 18. Might have still been cool when he was 25. But I'd imagine as we've gotten older that he had a very difficult time explaining what happened to his arm, especially to potential employers.
A wise old man once told me this:
You're going to need to work for the next 40 years, and you will probably have all sorts of jobs at all sorts of places. You will need those jobs. Never do ANYTHING that would prevent you from being able to get them. |

| You should look up scarification tatoos. branding is a type of it, but instead of burning, you can get a raised tatoo by having an artist basically cut or scrape you, forming a scar. They then repeat the cutting until it becomes raised like a branded tatoo would be. Don't have any tats, but I'd rather be cut than burned. |
