What is your favorite length musky rod for general fishing. Not trolling, jerkbait rod, etc. Just general crankbait, swibmait, bucktail rod.

I love the longer rods. I wish someone would make a 9'6'' telescoping rod.

i had a 9'6" custom diamondback....I ended up preferring my 9's and cut 4" off the tip to make it a 9'2"....9 is about ideal...all my rods except my jerkbait rod or 8'9" to 9'2"

Sounds like someone is "fishing" for some research data.

Generally I am using an 8'6" or a 9'0" rod for everything. Mostly 9'0" unless I am fishing bucktails and then I got with the 8'6" Slingblade.

Definitely 9'0 is ideal.

I use 2 9'0 XH rods for everything I own from 6" phantoms to monster medussas

Once I started using a 9'0 rod it feels too weird to go back to anything below 8'6.

I have 3 9'0 and a 9'3. 8'6-9'3 are the best length IMO

Just got my hands on a new Migizi 9'6" XH stick and I can't wait to catapult some big rubber this summer with it! Biggest I've had prior to this rod was a 9'.

A few years back an 8'0" rod was long. Now it's 9'6". How long until we are using surf rods to musky fish? I can just see guys out there with 12'0" rods flinging baits 100 yards.

8' is perfect for my situation. At 5'6" I am 6" closer to the water than most and I fish out of a low profile boat. Any longer and it just feels weird. Now a I do use an 8'6" but I cut some off the butt probably 8'4" now. Anything longer than 14" rear grip gives me fits too.

8'6" rods with the handle extended so the rear section of cork is 19" total. They come out at 8'11".

Would go with 9' but its hard to bike places and drive a small car with a rod that long. 8' is ideal for me.

I like 8'6" or 9 foot. I have an 8 that I use for a couple situations, but it feels short now. After buying your 9' XH last year, I used it almost exclusively. I'll be buying the 9' XXH this year. for most general applications, I would say I would pick a 9 over 8'6" but 8'6" is a good length too.

I voted for 9...

9' for me as well, but to be fair my 9' is only three inches or so longer than my 8'6" when looking about the amount of rod in front of the reel. Just a trade-off for long handles. I've never used a 9'6", but I'd be interested in seeing the difference. The extra 6" in total length would help compensate the longer handles.

Love my 9 footer for everything but jerkbaits and jigs, and 7-7'6 for jerkbaits don't musky fish YET though (closest musky is like 4000 miles away).
This summer i might go to Canada for 5 weeks though :D

although i have a few of Jame's rods, and a number of them 9', i still like 8' and 8'3" rods. I have an 8'3" MI rod that is the perfect length to me.

On a certain body of water we fish from a small tin boat, with the two of us we need to minimize what we bring. I am using an 8' Heavy St.Croix Avid in that situation as an all purpose rod. I do bring another rod to use with gliders.
