In looking around the internet I only see that the new Calcuttas are a 100, 101, 200 and 201. Nothing about the larger reels.

I had about a 15 minute conversation with Larry Dahlberg about it at the expo, and he actually let me check out the reel. I thought I heard him say it was the only one that had been made yet, and if I understood what he told me correctly they're still working on the design for the exterior of the reel.

From what I gathered: It's supposedly like a fusion of the Curado and TE as far as gearing goes, so I think the new Calcutta and Curado that pikemaster mentioned might be the same reel. The one I played with was a 400 sized round reel, but they're calling it a Curado 400 E. I don't think the bigger one will hit the market until a while after the smaller ones do this fall. Here's some more info on the smaller ones.

Looks like they're sticking with the graphite drag knob....

Just passing on what I heard.

Hmmm. Been thinking about buying a 400B for a while now. Should I be trying to buy one before the new reels come out? Maybe I'm resistant to change, but the 400B seemed pretty proven. The tiny little star for the drag looks weird, even though I usually set the drag and free spool as needed.

Then again it is Shimano, and they don't seem to come out with many flops.

I hope the New Calcutta TE reels in 300-400 have the new MICRO MODULE FINE PITCH GEAR TEETH. Shimano has just released this over in Japan on the new Antares Bass reel for Big Baits. Those Micro gear teeth just scream " smoothnest " !!!! More teeth meshing together at the same time means less pressure on each gear tooth, making for a longer lasting gearset !!! I hope ???
