don't wait for opener ...

fishing time is NOW in the Northwoods! ... take a trip and catch some crappies, set your icons or lay down your trails :0) on your favorite lakes. bonus time on the water is producing and businesses in the area are open. it's the nicest time to be north and with open water and open golf-courses it's a chance to have fun without the craziness of traffic on the roads or on the water.

EDIT: ... these were tricked by minnows from Rollie and Helen's ... it's not just a MuskyShop!

we found em scattered in the deep holes and pretty much non-commital. finally the bite came at sunset on shorelines nearest to the spawning bays in 10' of water. they came in on the sunset and were gone as soon as the light was gone. nights are cold (frost last night) and i'm thinking that it only gets better from here with a return of warmer nights coming hopefully soon.

tonight i went to another lake to try to re-produce the pattern and only found lmb's

on a warm-fuzzy note i did enjoy the calling of mating geese and the migration of the ducks filling the skies ... if we didn't catch anything the fishing would have sucked, but the view is always spectacular on the water. muskrats are all over the place workin' like share-croppers without the ice to rest on. a friend reported seeing their first loon ... if you haven't been north to hear them when they return, it's a treat!

still have to search for em ... but worth it if you can find em!! will be out the next couple nights so will let you know if i find any consistency.

Blasted I'll have to wait to get out to chase the slabs until the gamefish opener I am afraid. Too much going on to get up before then.

You do. There are a numbr of the smaller rivers up in that neck(a bit more to the west) with expanding populations of kittys. I wouldn't doubt there would be a few below the dam in Rhinelander and/or Hat Rapids. Only way to tell is by soaking a 2" chunk of your favorite cut bait. Your left over crappie trim works excellent, especially after sitting out for a day. Fish for 5-10 minutes without a bite and move. You'd be surprised at where you might find a few. I know I was, when fidning them in a few dfferent places here, some of them where they are good to eat!

You guys really don't have much of a life up there during the off season, do yuh...

I'd invite you down but I think that pretending to have fun is good for your imagination and your personal development. Of course in some cases it does fall short...

fsf, you been playin' it for years.

When you getting back up North? Way less time in the office for me this year means time on the water....

cold nights slowed down the bite ... fish are coming to the edge of the break but not any further. picked up 3 crappies and a few nice perch tonight. need some warmer nights and we'll have a great bonus pre-spawn crappie bite but i'll probably be working and miss it /:

yeah, been too busy for my own good. That's ended, thank goodness, back to a realistic number of hours....and back on the water. plus, new technology has allowed me to be in my office anywhere. Pretty cool.
