I tend to experiment and try things I wanted to but not under prime conditions. It has paid off sometimes and others not. I have gotten really discouraged but when that happens it seems obvious that nothing is going to happen and usually does not.

In my cosmic opinion, mood swings certainly alter success rates. This is because visualization (repeatedly imagining the desired event) directs energy to influence events. And it's hard to visualize positive events when you are pissed off or depressed. Fortunately, it's not hard to learn to manage your mood, though for some of us it requires chemical assistance, i.e., a mild anti-depressant for me, and god knows what for those crazy boys from Indy. Speaking of god, praying is really a lot like visualization, and vice versa.

Wait, you said you are pissed off.

Hmmmmm.....

Well, maybe you are more focused and determined, sharper visualization?

Ok, ok, I'm full of sh1t.

So far this year I seem to be seeing the same kind of thing. Everytime I get really pissed, I land a big fish. Its gotten to the point now where when I start getting pissed off, the guys fishing with me in the boat start getting the nets ready, the spotlight ready, the pliers ready, etc. The first time this year that I got really pissed off we were bass fishing, and I pulled in a 5lb'r. The next time we were pike fishing, and I pulled in 4 decent fish in an hour or so. Ive only gotten pissed while fishing for skies once, and it didn't help me out any in that case.

I also have found that some times you have to give your lures a heart to heart. Explaining to them that they have to catch a fish within a number of casts or else they get sent back to the box seems to have decent results. Also, when the lures refuse to cooperate, or starts hooking lots of weeds, you have to smack them around a little bit sometimes! If im putting on a new lure, i like to shake it for a while to piss the lure off a little.

One of the guys I fish with names his lures only after he catches fish on them. So he tells them if they catch him a fish, he'll give them a cool name. It seems to be working for him somewhat also. So far he has a jitterbug named 'JB', an orange bucktail named 'carrot top', and a few others that are escaping me right now. The cisco kid on the other hand, doesnt get many positive names, as it hasnt produced so much as a strike for him this year. YMMV []

You know what, I believe you have hit upon something that is a common thread with all die hard muskie fisherman/women. When you develop such a passion for something, work hard to perfect it, and educate yourself on the subject matter it is only natural that when things dont progress in the desired manor, your emotion can turn to frustration, mild anger, and even depression. In other words, many of us have at one time or another murmured something to the effect:
"Man, we threw everything at em but the steering wheel from the boat!" or "If I get one more fish that just follows, I'm jumping in the lake and I'll just use my hands instead of that stupid lure."

I'm not sure about getting angry, but this I can tell you. My old partner (God rest his soul) use to tell me, "You know Mike, you hook more fish when your pissed!" It must have worked, we won back to back tourneys together!

I think the musky's mood affects my overall success more than my mood. Most likely because I am such an even tempered individual and never become frustrated or upset! Never mind that me wife doesn't necessarily agree with my assessment of the situation....[:blackeye:]

Seriously, I find that the more I am in control of my own emotions, the more likely I am to succeed at anything. It seems that when I'm in control, I can evaluate things, especially small minute details, better and act not just react.

Obviously, others have a different experience. And hey, I'm for whatever works for anyone.

Definately!! When the wife gets one of those mood swings, it definately affects how many fish I catch.[] Hard to catch fish when you're grounded and dodging frying pans and dishes[:0]
