| I got out on a northern Illinois lake on Saturday to test out my new trolling motor, locator, rods, reels,ect.. and I was shocked that the surface temp was already 65 in some areas but never went below 60 anywhere that I saw. And my sonar is connected to my troling motor which sticks down a few feet in the water and it was still that warm. Do you think the muskies have spawned and are recovering or do you think that they are starting to spawn, spawning or not even thinking about it yet?

Location: oswego, il | Toothy, first you might want to get a shorter shaft trolling motor. Having it 3+ feet below the surface may cause you some issues in shallow water. With that said and if this weather continues fish will be spawning about 2 weeks early this year. |

Location: north central wisconsin | Things are happening almost a month early here. Had almost 57 degrees on the river in Nekoosa, WI. Sounds like the DNR is getting Musky spawn in some parts, and they expect a good year at the hatcheries if all continues to go well for them. Fishing is great for multi species(walleyes, post spawn perch and panfish), just happening way too quickly!! Nice cool down last night. Hope it continues..

| Well its adjustable so I can raise and lower it. Yeah hopefully they spawn then it cools down because we don't want the temps in the 80s in may and June. |

Location: Sussex, NJ | I'm from Jersey and its the same thing here. I saw pairs the other day cruising the shorelines looking like they're getting ready to spawn. The water here is 63 degrees. Everything is happening so early |

Location: Chesterton, Indiana | I regestered water in the 60's last week at webster here in Indiana. This is crazy. Last year I fished my first tourny in layered clothing and this year in a short sleeve shirt |

| 68-69 degree surface water last night in central Missouri. Fish (and wild turkeys) are getting much more active but luckily photo period (hours of daylight) will temper the spawning urge a bit; most fish species should still breed earlier than normal around here. I know the MO. muskie crews moved their spring sampling up by at least a week. - Kevin |

two words: surface temps.
Not in the case of the big rivers here. My readings here in Central WI taken below a dam spewing almost 10,000 cfs where temps are near homogeneous top to bottom. During the warm spell, some of the shallow bays were in the middle 60's for a few days. Crazy. Its cooled considerably with the cold nights and back to about 51 in the channel. Walleyes are about done spawning, Muskies are going at it, and most importantly, the Gills and Crappies are on the prowl=fun!
