Do u guy sand your wood to the point it is ready to seal and paint before you layout your lure patterns or do u wait till you have the blanks cut out. I am using poplar boards. I was going to sand them with a belt sander with 120, 220 and so on till i get a nice finish that is ready to seal and paint. Then line out my blanks then cut with a scroll saw then use a router to shape the baits. Would this work and save me the time of trying to sand smaller peices of wood?

Cut them, shape them, drill and weight them, fill and seal up the weight holes, then sand until it's smooth. You don't need to sand the lure until it's baby soft, just get it smooth. Now use a wood seal, then primer, then paint, then clear.
