| I have a 2006 Ranger 619 that has a casting deck about 2'x3' on the back. While working on the boat, a shop light with a 100 watt bulb fell on the carpet for a few minutes, and melted a spot on the carpet. I called Ranger, and they said that the deck is not wood, but fiberglass and part of the boat so the deck can't be removed. Does anybody know what I should do to replace that piece of carpet. How to get it off, where to get carpet, and how to install the new stuff? It is so neatly tucked in the corners at the edges. Any ideas would be a great help, it is such a nice looking boat! | |

Location: Illinois | Hambone- sorry bout the burn! Here's my suggestion but take it with a grain of salt as I am far from qualified.
I'd rip up the rest of the carpet. Could be tricky especially round the neatly tucked corners. Be meticulous and get it all out as best you can. Order a replacement carpet that matches your old carpet 2'6x3'6- enough to overlap the corners. Coat the deck and corners with a bonding agent such as glue or caulk. place carpet over deck, and where it overlaps use a flat head screwdriver or scraper and jam the overlapped area into the corners. Make sure you really gobbed the corners with plenty of bonding agent. let dry. Come back with an exacto knife and carefully cut perimeter.
ps- a less aesthetic but more practical option could be to throw in a fatigue mat cut to shape on top of the deck.

| You can always take it to a place and have them replace it. I dont think it would be that hard to do it yourself. Ranger sells the carpet to match. I used contact cement to glue carpet on some lids when I replaced them | |

| If you take it to someplace, they will likely cut a circular piece out, and glue the same size piece of new back in. You can do the same thing if you can get a scrap from Ranger.
It won't be perfect, depending on how much your carpet has worn and faded. but eventually, it will become less and less noticable.

x2 I have burnt my carpet the same way and did just that... the mat was a good thought too. | |
