Location: Grand Rapids MN | I've been playing around some and figured I would post some finished baits. I ended up with a few nice shallow gliders with heavier hooks on but for some reason most wound up being awesome WTD topwaters. I expected the Etex to make the baits sink faster but in the end didn't really change it and actually seemed to make them rise up. I know that goes against convention but that's what happened. So my next blanks will have more weight added. Part of the fun.
Thanks guys for the help getting started. I feel this hobby may stick for some time.

I've found the same thing, epoxy adds weight to the lure, but doesn't necessarily have a big affect on the buoyancy.

| Nice baits, that olive darter pattern is nice. Good observation on the epoxy. It’s good to figure things out for yourself. You often hear on here that too much etex will weigh down a bait. It's technically true that epoxy adds weight. What people are not realizing is that epoxy has a specific gravity of nearly 1. That means it’s neutrally buoyant in water and does not add weight that will cause the bait to sink. Adding epoxy will increase the size dimensionally and therefore its volume. So, if you have a lure that’s already neutrally buoyant and increase its volume, what’s going to happen?

Location: Grand Rapids MN | I remember reading posts on weighting gliders and a number of times people said their baits sank like a rock after Etex was added. So I looked up the relative/specific gravity and it was 1.15. So like you mentioned Mike it didn't make sense to me either but rolled with and now I know I need to make more adjustments to make some gliders. I was impressed thou with this small flat sided low sitting bait as a WTD topwater. Moves nice in the water. Friends and family should be happy with them as well.
