Winter?

Where I live on SW PA it is now 70 degrees F. As I was walking to my office this morning, I observed dafodils and jonquils in full bloom. And bright white blossoms on some of the trees. Near the river, there is a willow tree; its leaves already a bright green. Wow. In more than 50 years, I've never seen this before. It is obviously spring on the ground. But the calendar will not show spring until tomorrow. Being a realist, I never expect anything nice before April. And that's way down here. Babes in bikinis by April 10..., we hope.

it's 74 degrees here now. I'm usually out on Thunder lake pounding the bluegills in the snow and 34 degrees for a high right now. Can't even put a boat in the water, Ice isn't out yet. Soon as it goes out, it WILL get cold again.

Wasn't it just two years ago that we had a real warm March? I think I put my dock in the first weekend in April on the Moen chain. I know last year it was almost a month later than the year before.

This weather is just so far off the norm. Went to the New London St. Patrick's day parade Saturday, the largest of its kind on the state. People were sitting in lawn chairs a good hour and a half before the parade started. Other years the chairs are set out but no one is sitting in them.

Here in Indiana....we went from Fall (Had four months of November-like weather) straight to Summer. We skipped Winter and Spring altogether. It's been 83-85 degrees here the past 10 days. We've had leaves on trees, flowers up for a while now. I've already mowed my yard twice and needing it again already for a third time. Plenty of people walking around with those first-of-the-year sunburns already too. It's shorts and t-shirt weather...heck....don't even need a shirt right now either.

We're potentially going to be close to 90 degrees here on Wednesday. This is still March people.

We keep THIS up...we're liable to have water temps at 80 degrees by mid-May!!!!!!!!!! That won't be good......

Thankfully a slight cool-down coming towards this weekend. Still will be unseasonably warm though....

We're basically a month ahead of schedule here. It normally starts getting green mid- to late-April. It's in the mid-60s now, and has been comfortable in a t-shirt and shorts almost all the time for over a week. Getting close to 80-degree weather, but it's been at least 65-70 even on overcast days. Water is almost consistently 50+ degrees, we're normally coming out of ice-out this time of year.

My concern as of now is low water. There was hardly any snow in our area, so that's already keeping the water a few feet lower in some areas. I expect this to balance out eventually. Rivers are running slightly above summer norms right now, they are normally twice as high this time of year.

Tulips are about to open. We've hit 80 or better every day since the end of last week. I'll probably need to mow the lawn by the weekend. I've NEVER cut my grass in March before!

Wierd for sure. Cut grass for a living and we are probably going to start mowing a month before we did last year. Water in the river is at least 20 degrees warmer. We got some rain today but I fear we are going to be in for a very dry summer unless this is a very wet spring.

Ice started going out on Sunday am up in Land O Lakes. By the time the walleye opener comes, fish will be in their summer patterns.

Kinda odd really, usually the ice pulls out off the shorelines, Palmer started opening in the middle.

We've been ranging about 30 degrees over normal temps here in N IL for the last several weeks. Never really had a winter. Maybe 6" snow total from November until now, which all melted as soon as it fell. Ice is gone and has been for some time. Crappies have already spawned. Hit the local pond last weekend and the weekend before, LMB are already on their beds. The lawn needs to be mowed already, at least a month ahead of shcedule. I have some stuff in the garden that is still growing from last season. It just never got cold enough to kill anything. And holy BUGS. I have never seen mosquitoes this early. Robins are back, ducks are back, trees have already budded and are starting to get leaves. Based on past years, we're about a month ahead of schedule, and we've had no rain. We need the rain, but that's just going to make the mosquitoes worse.

The season is definitely early down here also. Went to Cumberland to striper fish and hit patches of water with surface temp of 70.4 degrees. Usually that is a signal that the season is going out soon, but, the season hasn't really started.
Hopefully it will cool back down again before summer water temps arrive.

59 degrees in Rhinelander now. Way cooler than the least few days, but still 12 degrees warmer than our average high temp.

Indeed it will - on Sunday. Got a call from the neighbors that ice out has occurred - a full month earlier than last year.

Look out crappies, I'm coming !
