Location: 31 | If you think this is just too disgusting to think about, you don't even want to know about how many other fish of this caliber get forked there every winter. It really sucks when any muskie gets speared, but especially when it has such an impressive girth. It would be nice if we could somehow get a closed season in Michigan to prevent this kind of thing. |

An NYU graduate would be able to figure that out....Stout grads not so much. |

| Whether others agree with killing muskies or not really isn’t the big picture of this article. The big picture is the throw and spear first, and then determine what you killed after. Not very good hunting/fishing ethics to say the least, let alone have the story published and placing that individual on a podium.
Maybe this is where Sled thinks the two are alike. Brown it’s down mentality really. Kill first, and think about the consequences after.
Not something that should be written about, or talked about, in a positive way.

spear first, check species later... Is like sitting in my stand, hearing a something in the bushes and pulling the trigger, to only find out I just shot a dog. Then to say well it happened so fast I just let it fly and prayed hoping it was a deer... That is how I'm looking at it and the fact that the paper is glorifying it makes it so much more irritating IMO. |

doe count in the southern herd is noticeably down due to earn-a-buck and liberal distribution of doe tags. do you speak in hunting panels too? cuz it sounds like you're disconnected from what we see down there in Southern Wisconsin.

| I believe the spearer is a surgeon and his actions remind me of this old joke.
A family practice doc, an internist, a surgeon, and a pathologist are out one day duck hunting. First up is the FP doc – he raises his gun to take aim at a flock of birds passing overhead and says to himself, “Looks like a duck, flies like a duck, quacks like a duck, it must be a duck.” BANG! He bags himself a duck.
The internist then steps up, raises his gun to take aim at a second flock of birds flying overhead. He says to himself, “Looks, flies, and quacks like a duck, rule out quail, rule out pheasant, goose versus duck likely.” BANG! He, too, bags himself a duck.
A third flock of birds then flies overhead and the surgeon steps up and raises his gun at the flock. BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! He fires multiple rounds at the flock and dead birds are dropping all around. The surgeon lowers his gun, walks over to one of the dead birds, picks it up, hands it to the pathologist and says, “Tell me if this is a duck.”

I'd bet a considerable amount of money that there is more money spent on deer management than musky management. |

Well, no, not really. Not too many musky waters in MI with good populations of fish that size. There are some, but if you don't live near St. Clair or in the western UP, they're few and far between. |

The state record was NOT caught 30 min from my house. Keep driving, keep driving...

I don't see spearing in the definition so don't know how he should get any award. |

Location: South Bend, Indiana | Spearing muskies should be banned everywhere. It's obvious that they're often stocked because they suck at reproducing. And they're letting people go and kill them. With actual fishing, the musky has a giant chance of survival after being properly released, with spearing, there's no chance of survival once the spear is in the fish. (I assume this because I've never seen a musky swimming around with a spear in its back LOL) You would think the DNR would take better "care of them." They're aware of the "rarity" of musky. Protect them. |
